CARSON CITY – The state Parole Board has agreed to release a woman convicted in Las Vegas of trying to extort $20 million from the husband of entertainer Celine Dion, saying she was raped.

 

Board spokesman David Smith said it determined that Yun Sung, 54, wouldn't be a threat to society and she will be freed from the Florence McClure Women’s Correctional Center in Las Vegas around Aug. 2.

 

Smith said there were “holds” on her from Clark County officials and from the immigration service.

 

Her husband, Ae Kwon, was released from prison last year.

 

Sung was convicted of trying to extort $20 million in 2003 from Rene Angelil, the husband of Celine Dion. She had already been paid $2 million.

 

Sung and her husband filed suit accusing Angelil of raping her at the Imperial Palace. He denied the allegation but paid Sung the $2 million in 2000 to keep her quiet about an accusation about him fondling her.

 

Angelil’s lawyer said the money was paid to avoid the ill effects of the publicity on Angelil’s health during chemotherapy treatment and the impact on his wife during pregnancy.

 

Sung was sentenced to one to four years on the extortion conviction and a consecutive three to five years on the charge of a witness accepting a bribe. She had been discharged on the extortion conviction in 2007 to begin serving the second term.

 

At the time of sentencing in January 2005, the Clark County District Attorney’s Office said Sung had previous shoplifting arrests in California and there was a pending case against her alleging fraud at a Las Vegas area casino.

Nothing will happen, the case is closed.

Everybody knows shes a lier now and everything she wanted was money.

No one needs to be worry.

I can't tell from that article how many times she's been charged, it's rather confusing...

well I don't think she would try anything again bc she got busted and it's in the news but hopefully she relocates to somewhere far far away from LV! And doesn't try this on someone else.

It's obvious that the accusations were false. René would NEVER do that! I think it would have been better if he didn't give her the money but he had so many more things that were so much more important to deal with. There are so many crazy people on this earth! Crazy Woman! I hope this story doesn't stay in the news because if it stays for a long time, I wouldn't be surprised if new rumours would start. Absolutely crazy woman!!!!!

ALthough I must say, it is common for men to cheat on their beautiful wives/significant others with iffy looking women. And vice versa with women, to be fair. Apparently some of them don't care what they are screwing up. I don't think René would have done such a thing, but it happens all the time. Happened to me and I'm not even "beautiful".

 

I think rené did the right thing in shutting her up. It coud have ruined Céline's career, whatthey had worked so hard their whole lives for, and what's 2 million to safeguard that? Good decision. Smart man, that René. It also says he did it to not upset her during her pregnancy. Also a good move or his head might have been ripped off hahaha.
