I found this article explaining the way it works and at one point they say:

Anyway, she's still a "PLEASURE" and the author gave her nice and beautiful credits.

i hope you got what i mean. it's all about the subjectivity. but objectively, i do believe it's not insulting in a way.

...I believe the definition of "guilty pleasure", is to be embarrassed and/or ashamed of something you personally receive happiness or joy from and you try to hide that fact from other people. Yes, the ending paragraph was very nice, however, it was just one more "lefthanded compliment" before you read through yet another meanspirited attack on Celine.

For me, the "winner" in this amounts to nothing but a "joke", which is why I personally don't find anything positive or complimentary for Celine to come out on top. But that's just me.

No offense, but perhaps, after years of hearing/reading degrading insults and cruel remarks and mockery directed at Celine, I just want to push back a little in frustration....

still, i can't find it insulting nor demeaning, don't know why. maybe you could help me understand?

 

i'm thinking, maybe the fact that i can't understanding the point that it's kinda demeaning in a way is that because i modestly believe that no matter how seemingly perfect you are -because of the natural greatness the person has (concretely speaking Celine as example), one still has some not-so-good side that most people tend to notice.

 

nevertheless, i still don't see insulting points to celine in the article besides of labeling her as guilty pleasure (i've said my points here). probably, the biggest factor in my seemingly misunderstanding of the nature of the poll and the article is that i'm no american, i'm not articulate in the language enough. however, i am deeply considering your points about the "lefthanded compliment" of the article for celine.

Maybe it will help you if you think about it this way. Imagine you have the opportunity to meet face to face with Celine. (Keep in mind, that a "guilty pleasure" is something you are ashamed of or embarrassed by and don't want other people to know about.) Would you be Proud to tell Celine that you and other fans voted for her to win a contest (as inconsequential as it is) which is meant as a mockery or insult? Hope this helps.

She's slightly ahead of Ace of Base....I hope she gets through. I don't really think she is a guilty pleasure, though. She's the best selling female artist ever, so there must be millions upon millions of people who love her music. It's just the stereotypical "Celine + Canada + love ballads + nice demeanor = CHEESE" which is completely wrong!!

I just wanted to mention that I just looked at the poll and Celine is falling behind (Celine 49%, Ace of Base, 51%). I know some people are hesitant to vote, because it would label Celine as a "guilty pleasure," but that just means that people really do love listening to her music, whether they are really open about it or not. I think we ought to show our support and love for Celine's music, whether it's considered a guilty pleasure or not!

I think this is soooo weird. I must have a weird (or a fantastic) music taste as I love Céline really really really much but Ace Of Base used to be my favorite group!!
