By us fans voting for Celine it seems that it constitutes us admitting that, we too, feel Celine is one of our "guilty pleasures?" I'm so freaking proud of being her fan there is no way I would insult her and participate in this this mickey mouse contest. I'm sorry, but even with the semi-fake-sincere second paragraph, I just don't understand even remotely why you would want Celine to win such an insulting and negative promoting poll or contest or whatever you want to call this thing. (Although it is interesting how she is placed at #5 on the list)I guess it is just a case of some seeing the glass half full or half empty. No offense to anyone here who likes the idea....

I voted twice! She's at 57% right now, But that's only because I want her to win another poll, I absolutely HATED the insulting comments made about her in those paragraphs. You know, I have a friend who is a Will Smith hard-core fan and he passed me the link yesterday. I must admit I was going to post this poll here in the forum... in fact I told him that I was going to... but you beated me!

 

About the poll itself... in fact the article is talking 'bout Will music, and not about him as an actor. So yeah, they can be compared in that way.

 

No need to say I voted yesterday, yep it's just another weird poll... but I don't get the point many of you said that you wouldn't be voting because it names Céline as a "guilty pleasure". I understood by this that the articles' writers are analysing each of them from radically different points of view. Just my thoughts...

but let's see the point for 'subjectivity' of each individual. celine can be indeed no guilty pleasure; on the other side, she can be. not everybody who love/like her are hard-core/die-hard that are readily bold to show everytime that yes indeed they are fan.

 

i always say that i am a chase-down-the-bus fan of celine since i was 7 yrs old. but celine has been a food for me...but when people know that i am like that, they tend to look at me weird -although i don't care, it doesn't matter. that happens because of some social norm that soar within some of the country that men should act like men -tending to posits that a man should idolize a man or the like. trying to live up with the norm as a member of the society, celine can be a "Guilty Pleasure". Anyway, she's still a "PLEASURE" and the author gave her nice and beautiful credits.

...I believe the definition of "guilty pleasure", is to be embarrassed and/or ashamed of something you personally receive happiness or joy from and you try to hide that fact from other people. Yes, the ending paragraph was very nice, however, it was just one more "lefthanded compliment" before you read through yet another meanspirited attack on Celine.

For me, the "winner" in this amounts to nothing but a "joke", which is why I personally don't find anything positive or complimentary for Celine to come out on top. But that's just me.

No offense, but perhaps, after years of hearing/reading degrading insults and cruel remarks and mockery directed at Celine, I just want to push back a little in frustration....

still, i can't find it insulting nor demeaning, don't know why. maybe you could help me understand?

 

i'm thinking, maybe the fact that i can't understanding the point that it's kinda demeaning in a way is that because i modestly believe that no matter how seemingly perfect you are -because of the natural greatness the person has (concretely speaking Celine as example), one still has some not-so-good side that most people tend to notice.

 

nevertheless, i still don't see insulting points to celine in the article besides of labeling her as guilty pleasure (i've said my points here). probably, the biggest factor in my seemingly misunderstanding of the nature of the poll and the article is that i'm no american, i'm not articulate in the language enough. however, i am deeply considering your points about the "lefthanded compliment" of the article for celine.
