He's just jealous. I beg your bloody pardon.

The production of MHWGO is flawless and yes, if produced by David Foster she would have sounded like on "If I Ruled The World". But she sounds heavenly light and emotional. IT's the best song on LTAL actually.

If yes, then

Funny that he says that 10 years after the fact, now that everyone "hates" the song after hearing it too much.

This man has quite an ego!!

The World Children's Day peformance was the best live version of that song EVER. She hit the high notes amazingly! :D

I agree and feel the same.

Personnally the thing that makes me grind everytime is that he thinks he discovered Céline. Céline was already a superstar in Québec eventhough they asked him to come to hear her sing....in "a tent" like he loves to tell...like it would make it seem that with him she got on stage and recorded albums for the first time. :nono: She already had a career in French, she won her Gold Medal in Japan, had success and a gold record in France, won the Eurovision, sang for the Pope, made a successful tour in her home province. Ok he helped Céline to become better known by singing in english and become a much bigger star for the world but I maintain he didn't discover Céline at all in my book. like for Josh Groban or others for whom he likes to claim paternity for their discovery. I don't know about others David discovered but for "Céline in english" if I had to say a name it would be a lot more Carol Reynolds who actually made David aware of Céline's existence in the first place.

Agree with you, Lou555. He didn't discovered Céline, what's more, I would say that thanks to Céline he's a more well known producer :)

And people hates MHWGO? Well, some not. Some are just tired, which is different. But can't hate a song that was HUGE during 2 years and nobody talked aboyt anything else but Titanic and that melody :)

I agree with you guys and I also agree with some artist (forgot who) who made a comment about certain producers these days overstepping their bounds and wanting too much of the spotlight rather than just focusing on their craft.

it's like when timbaland added beats to "apologize" yet when you read the charts, it says the song is BY timbaland featuring 1 republic. which to me is ludicrous.

Whether or not MHWGO is a good song is almost irrelevant at this point. Who can really hear it for what it is? with fresh ears, I mean? For good or bad, the song's incredible success has defined Celine for millions of people since its release over ten years ago, and it is tired. Even the jokes are tired (e.g., MHWGO and on and on...). Personally, I never liked it (except for the part at the end where her voice imitates a recorder or flute - nice touch!), and though I was thrilled for Celine at the time because I believe she is one of the all-time best singers - up there with Frank and Ella, Babz and Judy - I wondered that such a monster hit might paradoxically prove to damage her image. Unfortunately, this turned out to be true: MHWGO was the atomic bomb that destroyed Celine's chart career and established her, however unfairly, as the Eternal Queen of Schmaltz.

My worry now is that all Celine's future efforts, at least in English, will forever be overshadowed by a handful of old hits, songs that don't really reflect what a wonderful artist she is. Even now, our Celine is criticized when she sings her oldies and when she doesn't. This doesn't leave a lot of space for creative growth - we're going from Celine pleasing everyone to Celine pleasing no one, fast. This is a miserable trap to be in, and I hope there is some way out of it. My personal wish is that Celine record an album of classic songs from the 30's, 40's and 50's. She is such a natural with numbers like "I've Got the World on a String," or "All the Way," and she really knows how to make the classics her own. There are also many really beautiful ballads from this period that would be perfect for her. Whatever Celine's next recording project, I hope it represents a completely new direction. Now might be the time for Celine to let go of the past, and to put some of the old songs like MHWGO to rest, permanently. Mais qui sait?

I think MHWGO is a great song. I rarely listen to it, cause I just heard it waaaay too many times, but that doesn't mean it's a bad song. The fact that 10 years after people still talk about it like it was released a month ago, is proof of that. Not to mention it made the expression "on and on and on" enter the pop culture "hall of fame".

Like all things that became too popular, people start hating it. That always happens when someone or something gets too popular and this is the only thing that happened to Celine. To make a parallel with another favourite of mine... remember what happened to Julie Andrews after Sound of Music? People loved her so much they started to love to hate her and her career went down and down.... She only recovered some 15 years later. And that after she was out of the spotlight for good for about 7 years. Celine kept going, kept making records and selling out shows, making her even more popular. Why don't we all have such a big problem, like being too loved :giggle: I'm telling you, that's a problem I could very well live with.

I believe David when he says he didn't love this song from the begining though. And I think he made no secret of this towards Celine and Rene, being good friends and all. Come to think of it, I don't think I ever heard Celine saying she loves the song. I think she always says it's the biggest song of her career, Rene made the right call yada yada... Nothing about loving it. I'm sure she doesn't hate it, she wouldn't have been able to sing it a billion times. I'm sure that, if they released the song today, it would become just as popular, because it is, in itself, a great song. To think it ruined her career like some you said it's just silly. It made her sell out in Vegas for 5 years, and sell out this huge world tour. The only bad thing is that it made even more critics be mean to her, but let's be real, most critics didn't like her before either, and now she's an easy target, being so popular. I'm sure that if she started wearing bikini in all her videos and made songs with just 3 words as lyrics, those critics would start praising her. Thank God she doesn't!

What I don't get is this hype around Charice. Sure, she can sing, but.... I don't know... I keep comparing young singers with Celine when she was their age. Celine's voice had so much personality, everything was there. Charice's voice is a little to common and she's kinda screaming. Don't get me wrong, she still sing better than 95% of singers out there at the moment and I do hope David helps her achieve her dream, just like he did with Celine. She should have the success that teens like that Miley Cyrus, or whatever her name is... With better music.

Wow... long post...

Celine didn't like the song herself at first. And I'm sure she's sick of it since long time ago.

It doesn't mean you like a song just because you played it on piano. Maybe he was forced to do so because Celine just had to sing MHWGO because it was her comeback performance at that time.

I could just imagine what's going over through David's head while playing the song that time: "Oh what the.. why do i have to play this song... i hate this.. but i have to! Im being paid to do this!!!..." ahahaha

In my opinion, David was being a bit bitter about this. BYLM was nominated for an Oscar but lost. It was nominated for record of the year, it lost. The album FIY, in which she produced most of the stuff, won album of the year though. But for a single song, BYLM, he did not get much achievement compared to MHWGO.

MHWGO, i dont even need to enumerate things like it not only won record of the year at the grammys, it snagged an Oscar.. and countless of other awards, just for the song itself and not just because its part of some highly acclaimed album like FIY.

Hahaha he's just being a bit bitter.

He doesn't have to like the song, but I felt he was really rude about it! :)

At first my sister bought the cd falling into you and I did not like it as much as I did it later.

It all started with Power of Love , Think Twice and... My heart will go on.

I saw the movie Titanic and that was the first time I heard the main melody and afterwards the song.

From then on I became a Celine-Fan. Esspecially this song gave me goosebumps all over and it is such a great melody and such great lyrics too.

And the part Celine goes into the high notes proves she has a supervoice and she really touches you with that voice.

I play the song very often and I have heard it in many many different versions but it is still, in my opinion one of my favorite Celine songs.

It is emotion all over, and powerful singing.

I can understand people don't like it that much nowadays because you have heard it so many many times and Celine sings it so many times.

And I think when she would return once again after a couple of years and maybe doing a worldtour.. I think this song will still be performed because wether you like it or not, it is one of the signature songs of Celine. A Song people expect her to sing.

As for the live versions the world children's day version is in my opinion the best one i have heard her singing.

There could be worse than being associated with My Heart Will Go On. It's an excellent song, and they yet have to come up with something as good as that

My god David does not like MHWGO, is this a surprise. NO

I absolutely don't like the fact that David Foster compares Charice to Celine.

Celine at age 13 had more TRUe qualities of a REAL and emotional singer. Charice is 16 and god I don't think she

has a great voice, she just OK. Charice needs signing lessons and put A LOT OF EMOTIONS in the songs that she sings.

SO FAR, Chrice is a pure blind singer with NO EMOTIONS and NO FEELINGS whatso ever. The dear Charic is NOT comparable to

Celine when she was 16. Charice who has been propelled by David Foster and Oprah, NEEDS to get in toucj with herself and see if she can sing, not only pure high pitch voice crap but including teh emotions. SO FAR, I am not impress by Charice at all, in fact ist reather teh oppoiste she start to get on my nervs with the screeming with no emotions. So far, she is the pure definition of a blind singer. GO GIRL, you stiill have a lot of work to do with David Foster who desperately needs a new face to keep him working......he may jsut have the wrong person....who knows and time will tell as NOBODY knows so far what the dear fake Charice going to do in a near future. NOT IMPRESS BY HER AT ALL.

No, it is not a bitchy message, Charice is just another one coming out with nothing to offer SO FAR and needs to proof her existance in the music industry. Wish her good luck ....

Posted

mm. well in my opinion Charice is good but the way she sings at the moment is more an imitation of great singers like Celine and Whitney.

In Holland we have Glennis Grace. She sounds just like Whitney too and they are calling her already the dutch whitney. Anyway it is about getting that special own sound. That is what she must learn. Who knows where it may lead too?

I don't like David Foster's ego at all. He thinks everything he touches turns to gold, which isn't always the case. The man is definitely talented and deserves everything he has though. I have nothing but respect for his talent. I have always loved the song, but feel it could have been polished more. His arrangements are usually very thick and orchestral, and I don't get the same feeling on the track. Her voice is also very thin sounding to me on this song. I mean it is still gorgeous, but I think there could have been a few more takes and a bit more done with the song.
