Nikosn17 Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 From Paul Grein's Chart Watch Blog:Queen Celine: Celine Dion's 1998 album These Are Special Times this week becomes the first holiday album by a female artist to top the 5 million mark in Nielsen/SoundScan history. It has sold 5,006,000 copies. It just barely beat out Mariah Carey's 1994 release Merry Christmas, which has sold 4,918,000 copies. But both of these ladies were beaten to the punch by Barbra Streisand, whose A Christmas Album has been certified for sales of 5,000,000 by the Recording Industry Assn. of America. The album was released in 1967, nearly 24 years before Nielsen/SoundScan set up shop. Quote

luciusbright Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 Congratulations!!!!!!!Celine probably would be the best singer for Xmas songshehe~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Quote S'il suffisait d'aimer...
Bellamy Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 Why would they say both of these ladies were beaten to the punch by Barbra Streisand? I think 5M by soundscan is more than 5M by RIAA, retail VS shipment. Also soundscan doesn't include music club sales. I think TAST in under certified by RIAA, only 5.00x MULTI PLATINUM. I even made a comment about the album on www.cduniverse.com and if you want to read it here's the link: http://www.cduniverse.com/review.asp?style...;cart=802627013 Quote

I think you will find where sales are known Celine has sold much more and shipped even more. The only countries where sales are know for Mariah is what is on Wikipedia and come from reliable sources (Yes I know wikipedia can be unreliable). All of these source and research into other markets show Mariah has shipped just under 10 million copies of "Merry Christmas". There is no proof it has sold any more than that apart from people speculation. Quote

RLAAMJR. Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 (edited) In US, The best-selling Christmas album of all time (per January 2008), is Elvis' Christmas Album, by Elvis Presley, with nine million sold in 50 years This is a Top ten best-selling Christmas albums of the sound scan era in the United States according to the Recording Industry Association of America. Nielsen SoundScan began tracking sales data for Billboard on March 1, 1991. These were published in Billboard magazine on October 31, 2007. The list of Christmas albums sales are between 1991 to 2007: 1991-2007 Miracles: The Holiday Album / Kenny G. ~ 7,195,000 These Are Special Times / Celine Dion ~ 4,838,000 Merry Christmas / Mariah Carey ~ 4,801,000 Christmas in the Aire / Mannheim Steamroller ~ 3,683,000 Fresh Aire Christmas / Mannheim Steamroller ~ 3,548,000 Mannheim Steamroller Christmas / Mannheim Steamroller ~ 3,391,000 Now That's What I Call Christmas! vol. 1 / Various artists ~ 3,215,000 When My Heart Finds Christmas / Harry Connick, Jr. ~ 2,970,000 Faith: A Holiday Album / Kenny G. ~ 2,735,000 Beyond the Season / Garth Brooks ~ 2,649,000 worldwide (according to wikipedia): Barbra Streisand: A Christmas Album --> 7 million copies Mariah Carey: Merry Christmas --> 8 million copies Celine Dion: These Are Sppecial Times --> 11.5 million copies But I really think Mariah's Christmas album sold more than Celine's. And if we buy at least 2 Celine Christmas albums every year, we can mkae her album the best-selling christmas album. So let's keep on buying. Edited November 20, 2008 by RLAAMJR. Quote
