the star of TWO classics: dirty dancing and ghost

has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer

 

a lot of articles/message boards initially sensationalized the incident and made it out as if he would die in a few weeks. later his people released a statement saying that they had much hope for his recovery

 

however upon researching this particular type of cancer it becomes partially understandable why most people automatically assumed it was basically a death sentence. pancreatic cancer has extremely HIGH fatality rates

 

Patients diagnosed with pancreatic cancer typically have a poor prognosis partly because the cancer usually causes no symptoms early on, leading to metastatic disease at time of diagnosis. Median survival from diagnosis is around 3 to 6 months; 5-year survival is much less than 5%[14] With 37,170 new diagnoses in the United States every year, and 33,700 deaths, pancreatic cancer has the highest fatality rate of all cancers and is the fourth highest cancer killer in the United States among both men and women.[15][16]

 

 

i truly hope the statement made by his ppl are true and he pulls through this..or at least has more than a few years. it would be tragic cos some people are predicting he will go in months if not weeks!

Patrick Swayze is remaining optimistic, despite his recent diagnosis with pancreatic cancer.

 

The actor's publicist released this statement Wednesday afternoon:

 

"Actor Patrick Swayze has been diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer and is currently undergoing treatment. Patrick's physician Dr. George Fisher states, 'Patrick has a very limited amount of disease and he appears to be responding well to treatment thus far. All of the reports stating the timeframe of his prognosis and his physical side effects are absolutely untrue. We are considerably more optimistic.' Patrick is continuing his normal schedule during this time, which includes working on upcoming projects. The outpouring of support and concern he has already received from the public is deeply appreciated by Patrick and his family."

Yeah this is sad. Hopefully, if what his Dr's say is true that his treatments are going well and he will get better.

My mom's best friend died of Pancreatic Cancer, and it was not a pretty site. It went really fast, and quick and everyone had to adjust very quickly to the news that she was dying...she hallucinated extremely bad...it was so sad watching her...

Yeah unfortunately usually when it's diagnosed it's too late, in most cases. He may have a more treatable kind which would be good.

I heard today that they haven't given him a time frame, they supposedly caught it early, and he has a chance...I hope so...
