catwomanrrr Posted July 1, 2006 at 04:35 AM Posted July 1, 2006 at 04:35 AM (edited) I think what Tal is saying is that the writers of this article had ill-intentions and negative tones behind their words. Jim Farber is just criticizing Madonna for the sake of criticism... and his target were her tours. He probably ran out of topics to write about, so to save HIS job, he's written this... .... and he had to pull in the other famous singers of whom he felt fit in the same area as "his" Madonna. Personally, I feel that there is an obligation for all singers to TOUR and PERFORM LIVE, or else they're like a book, just being read with no interaction. Célinefull Posted July 2, 2006 at 12:37 PM Posted July 2, 2006 at 12:37 PM Both sides of the debate above are correct. Generally, tours are to promote new albums, and for the artist to share themselves with audiences. When you get to "diva" status, you have a huge collection of songs to wheel out, so then you start touring souly to make money, but most singers will still enjoy it. Bullet Posted October 4, 2006 at 01:15 PM Posted October 4, 2006 at 01:15 PM You think Madonna doesn't own any Céline's CD...? I would not bet on it!!! A long time ago (early 90's) on the Tonight Show, Madonna was asked who she listened to and she had mentioned Céline!! But she probably soon realized Céline was about to be a big competitor (and she is big time!!!) so Madonna started dissing Céline a few years later (including when she handed out the Oscar for My Heart Will Go On by saying "Oh- What a shocker- My Heart Will Go On!!!")... Madonna should make up to Céline and offer to do a duet!!!! Quote

Céline's Blues Posted October 12, 2006 at 04:08 PM Posted October 12, 2006 at 04:08 PM CTV.ca News Staff Updated: Thu. Oct. 12 2006 11:17 AM ET Pop star Madonna and her movie director husband Guy Ritchie have filed the papers to adopt a motherless one-year-old boy in Malawi, reports say. The singer filed the adoption papers on Thursday and a high court judge then issued an interim order to allow the boy, named David, to be taken away, the Associated Press reported. The boy's father, Yohame Banda, said he was happy for his son and pleased with the celebrity couple who want to be his parents. "They are a lovely couple," Banda told AP. "She asked me many questions. She and her husband seem happy with David. I am happy for him. Madonna promised me that as the child grows she will bring him back to visit." No official statement has been released by the London-based singer, who has made several public appearances since she arrived in Malawi on Oct. 4 to support AIDS orphans projects. The 48-year-old already has two children; five-year-old son Rocco (with husband Ritchie) and nine-year-old daughter Lourdes. Her publicist, Liz Rosenberg, said in an e-mailed statement Wednesday that she was "unable to make any official statement at this time." 'Followed normal processes' Penston Kilimbe, the Malawian government's director of child welfare services, said Madonna "followed the normal processes" when she filed adoption papers before Judge Andrew Nyirenda at the Lilongwe High Court. "This has been going on for some time. Now this is the completion point," he told reporters Thursday. The boy's father said he met Madonna and Ritchie at the court as part of the formalities and while they talked, Madonna carried the baby boy. "I am very, very happy because as you can see there is poverty in this village and I know he will be very well looked after in America," 32-year-old Banda told AP. He said his wife Marita died a month after the baby's birth from childbirth complications and the child had been cared for at the Home of Hope Orphan Care Center in Mchinji, a village near the Zambian border. Banda said his son left the orphanage on Monday and was taken to the capital, Lilongwe. Madonna has visited the orphanage at least once during her visit. Its director, the Rev. Thompson John Chipeta, has refused to speak to the media. Madonna's charity Raising Malawi is setting up an orphan care center to provide food, education and shelter for up to 4,000 children. It will have projects based on Kabbalah, Judaism's mystical sect, which counts Madonna among its devotees. One of the poorest countries in the world Malawi is among the poorest countries in the world, with rampant disease and hunger, aggravated by periodic droughts and crop failure. Some 14 percent of its 12 million people are infected with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, and an estimated 1 million children have been orphaned. In many villages, grandparents or older siblings struggle to feed orphans. Meanwhile, babies are becoming one of Africa's fastest growing exports. Thousands of familes in Europe and America are willing to provide homes and are able to finance the substantial costs of a cross-border adoption. However, some social workers fear that such adoptions undermine efforts to keep children within communities and argue that support should instead be directed towards helping extended families to care for them. In an open letter to Madonna released Tuesday, the private Malawian child advocacy group Eye of the Child welcomed her concern for Malawian children, but questioned whether foreign adoptions were in the best interests of children. And Jackie Schoeman, executive director Cotlands, a South African organization that cares for children affected by HIV, said the first choice for orphans should be a place in a local family. In Africa, orphans usually are take in by their extended families, but AIDS has affected many of the people who might have traditionally provided support. "If the only other option is for them to be in a long-term institutional then we would consider international adoption," Schoeman said. High-profile adoptions Actress Angelina Jolie adopted an Ethiopian girl, Zahara, in 2005 after her three-year-old son Maddox, who was adopted from Cambodia, reportedly blew a kiss at the baby during a visit to an orphanage. Other famous adopters include Meg Ryan, who has a Chinese girl, and Ewan McGregor, who this year adopted a four-year-old Mongolian girl. Mia Farrow adopted Soon-Yi (born in South Korea) and Lark Song and Daisy (both born in Vietnam). She went on to adopt seven more children. © Copyright 2006 CTV Inc. Quote http://i.imgur.com/dmreJ.jpg
winforlife Posted October 12, 2006 at 09:27 PM Posted October 12, 2006 at 09:27 PM It seems as though the Malawi government will waive the manditory time frame for the adoption. Her heart maybe in the right place, but for most people there are customery rules and regulations. Money talks...... This article was just put on the internet a few minutes ago-LILONGWE, Malawi (AP) - Madonna and husband Guy Ritchie took custody of a motherless 1-year-old boy from Malawi on Thursday after filing adoption papers and receiving a judge's interim approval. The boy's father said he was happy for his son, named David, and pleased with the celebrity couple who wants to be his parents. Yohame Banda, the father, said he met Madonna and her Ritchie at the court as part of the formalities. "They are a lovely couple," Banda said. "She asked me many questions. She and her husband seem happy with David. I am happy for him. Madonna promised me that as the child grows she will bring him back to visit." Madonna has yet to comment publicly since her arrival in Malawi on Oct. 4, though she has made several public appearances in support of projects she supports here to care for AIDS orphans. Judge Andrew Nyirenda "has just given out an interim order" that allowing Madonna to take David, said Thomson Ligowe, a court registrar. The interim order allows the couple to take the boy home. Malawi law does not allow for inter-country adoptions, and generally requires people who want to adopt to spend 18 months being evaluated by Malawian child welfare workers. Malawian officials had indicated earlier such restrictions would be waived for Madonna and Ritchie, but refused to elaborate Thursday. Penston Kilimbe, director of child welfare services in the Ministry of Gender, Child Welfare and Community Services, had said earlier that Madonna and Ritchie filed adoption papers before a judge at the Lilongwe High Court. "They have followed the normal processes. This has been going on for some time. Now this is the completion point," he said. Madonna and her filmmaker-husband have a son, Rocco, 5, and the singer also has a daughter, Lourdes, 9. Quote http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v119/LKlafter1/1367035680_small.jpg
