Whitney Houston comment on Divas Live 98

I find the opinions are very subjective and I must say that I don't agree with her at all. Aretha is very talented but I really think she is over rated singer. 

 

I wish it were not Carey but Whitney who came back, to be honest.

Do you remember what Carole King said about Celine and Aretha? Something about Aretha singing over Celine. And Celine had the class to impose herself.

Yeah, I remember how embarrass Carole looked like when Aretha over sing her and steal her part of the song. and Aretha also over sing all the others and ask them come out help her lift it higher. Mariah tried, but her voice was so weak, and she quite after a short while. Only Celine can keep up with Aretha.

Honestly, where the heck does Aretha get off singing over everyone? I don't know why American people always go on about her, she didn't seem to be all that great to me, and it was just rude that she sung over everyone. If I was Celine I would have slapped her, but of course, Celine just got right in there and went note for note with Aretha, and I think outclassed her ultimately.

If you have the 1998 American Music Awards video on hand, watch Whitney's face as Celine wins an award - it's almost like she is disturbed, she says something and then claps so I don't know! but if you have the video watch where Celine wins (I can't remember if she won just one award) - it's where Celine was wearing the black tank with the sparkly swirl designed skirt.

I saw "The National Enquirer" at the grocery store so maybe that's where the rumours are coming from. Whitney and Bobby were on the cover with talk of divorce...(again). I read the article while standing there. There were accusations of cheating by both and Bobby told some group of women he was with that he and Whitney were getting divorced...blah,blah, blah because she was cheating on him with other women and that he didn't feel like a man anymore. I guess I wouldn't put it past either of them to do anything but it's probably just talk I think. They probably won't separate unless one of them dies. They seem to be best drug buddies. They need each other for support.

I agree with Whitney in a general sense. I'm sure if she stopped and thought about each person individually she would agree that she was incorrect about several of them.

 

The term "diva" is very relative. Her definition is different from yours and both are quite different from mine.

 

Truly, Aretha was the only "real diva" there by one definition. She's been around MUCH longer than any of them and held strong throughout time. Celine, I do believe, is the closest to being a "big time diva" out of those ladies. I don't know why on earth they had Shania there. Mariah is *@$^*$, but still can sing very nicely. Gloria is pretty close to being a "big time diva" as well. I would say Whitney is even a step above Celine in that certain definition of diva, but I don't enjoy her music as much.

 

It's a hard term to place. I don't think Whitney was really trying to be rude, just stating her opinion. Though, don't you agree that Mariah can make anyone want to be rude? And Shania's whine...well?

 

Carole King is a great singer, and she's held a title a long time, but I just can't see her as a "diva". I think you need a certain sound and power -- Celine's got it. Hrmm. I dunno.

Celine and Mariah were the best i love them both so much Aretha was good but i´m not very much a fan i rather said Tina Turner would bring the house down,,,,if she were there and she was in 1999 and she was way much better than any other diva that night.

Shania and Gloria are divas in their own rights and songwriter Carole King is a diva songwriter and she sings pretty good of an average singer:

I Pray for Whitney cause i was a big fan of hers but she has just screwed up her career for drughabit and i she keep on this way she will die soon and i don´t wan´t her to die i love her to much and i´m just angry with bobby who have just destroyed this beautiful woman she once was and she let him do it.
