NEW YORK (AP) — Another Spears baby is reportedly on the way — and it's not Britney's. Jamie Lynn Spears, the 16-year-old "Zoey 101" star and sister of Britney, told OK! magazine that she's pregnant and that the father is her boyfriend, Casey Aldridge.

 

"It was a shock for both of us, so unexpected," she said. "I was in complete and total shock and so was he."

 

Spears is 12 weeks along and initially kept the news to herself when she learned of the pregnancy from an at-home test and subsequent doctor visit, she told the celebrity magazine, which hits stands in New York on Wednesday and the rest of the country by Friday.

 

What message does she want to send to other teens about premarital sex? "I definitely don't think it's something you should do; it's better to wait," she told the magazine. "But I can't be judgmental because it's a position I put myself in."

 

After she found out from a doctor that she was pregnant, she said, "I took two weeks to myself where I didn't tell anybody."

 

"Only one of my friends knew because I needed to work out what I would do for myself before I let anyone's opinion affect my decision. Then I told my parents and my friends. I was scared, but I had to do what was right for me," she said.

 

Spears broke the news to her mother, Lynne, just before Thanksgiving, the magazine reported.

 

"She was very upset because it wasn't what she expected at all," Spears said. "A week after, she had time to cope with it and became very supportive."

 

Lynne Spears, already grandmother to Britney's young sons, told the magazine: "I didn't believe it because Jamie Lynn's always been so conscientious. She's never late for her curfew. I was in shock. I mean, this is my 16-year-old baby."

 

She said her actress daughter, the telegenic heroine of her popular Nickelodeon series, has known Aldridge for years and began dating him in high school.

 

But in a recent interview with The Associated Press, Spears said she had no steady boyfriend. "I kind of just keep my options open," she said. "I have a bunch of friends that I always hang out with, a bunch of guy friends." She declined to talk about her older sister.

 

Spears spoke to the AP shortly before Thanksgiving, the day she told OK! she informed her mother about the pregnancy.

 

Jamie Lynn plans to raise the baby in her home state of Louisiana — "so it can have a normal family life."

 

Nickelodeon released a statement: "We respect Jamie Lynn's decision to take responsibility in this sensitive and personal situation. We know this is a very difficult time for her and her family, and our primary concern right now is for Jamie Lynn's well being."

 

A publicist for the network did not immediately respond to phone and e-mail requests for additional comment.

 

"Zoey 101" is scheduled to conclude its third season Jan. 4 with a cliffhanger episode in which Spears' character must decide whether to leave her fictional Pacific Coast Academy boarding school in California to join her parents in London.

 

The show is scheduled to resume in February, and its producer, Dan Schneider, has said filming on the fourth season has already been completed.

This was just on the MTV UK news, and they said he is going to be questioned, How old is the legal age for sex in her state?

Well in California (where she now lives) the age of consent is 18

Surely you can't blame her mother for all their problems. At some point kids will do whatever they please whether the parents approve or not. She made her own decision to have sex, I'm sure her mother wouldn't have approved of that. She had every example of what NOT to do in her older sister and despite the bad example chose to follow it. This baby could be entering the world to worse circumstances, at least it will be loved and provided for.

If people are restricted too much, then things like teen pregnancies will happen. But alot of people need to be made aware of the conciquences.

 

It all really comes down to money though, because they teach school kids over here to wear condoms, have abortions if necassary, but dont ever say, If you are going to have the child, how are you going to have the money to support your child if you dont have a family to rely on. Thats when they get given a free council house on a council estate, and get benifits for the rest of their lives.

 

One of my best friends got pregnant at 16, had it when she was 17 and is now 19 with her own house. She works for her money and to support her little girl, yet still finds it tough, but people like Jamie Lynn will have no problems with that because she is in the public eye with millions of dollars in the family, So its not really being a rolemodel for these 13+ year olds.

 

I do understand that mistakes happen, they happen to the majority of us, but I just hope that the child is well looked after and isnt used as a money maker.

 

Goodluck to her is all I say, alot of teen mums do suceed, and isnt all bad. x

As soon as I found out this morning that she was pregnant, I was like wow, I thought she was going to be the normal, sweet, innocent one in the family. I was so wrong about that.

I don't know how reliable that source is. I live in Maryland and it says the age is 16 but I KNOW it's 18.

It isn't "ridiculous". Its something that happends, whether people like it or not.

 

Obviously its is not advisable to have a baby at 16, but Im sure she didnt think, "Oh, Im going to have sex to get pregnant on perpose", It doesnt work like that.

 

Its frowned apon to have a baby at such a young age, And im sure all the teenagers that have done so are judged, which isnt fair.

The way people react is why teenagers are scared to talk to people, and end up getting abortions without their parents concent- which people seem to find more of an offence.

 

You could be the smartest straight A pupil, and get called "stupid", "sl*ut", "sl*ag" ect ect, so It doesnt come down to being clever, or intelligent, It comes down to - now you are in this situation, take responsibilities and make a choice, and be mature about it.

 

Im aware 16 is so young, but I when I was that age, I thought I knew everything - and for me that was only two, nearly three years ago, But, as "adults" we should be thinking more of how to stop this, and help teenagers, rather than saying how stupid the "child" was for getting themselves "knocked up". x

(a) Prohibited.- A person may not engage in vaginal intercourse with another:

 

 

 

(1) by force, or the threat of force, without the consent of the other;

 

(2) if the victim is a mentally defective individual, a mentally incapacitated individual, or a physically helpless individual, and the person performing the act knows or reasonably should know that the victim is a mentally defective individual, a mentally incapacitated individual, or a physically helpless individual; or

 

(3) if the victim is under the age of 14 years, and the person performing the act is at least 4 years older than the victim.

 

( Age considerations.- A person 18 years of age or older may not violate subsection (a)(1) or (2) of this section involving a child under the age of 13 years.

 

© Penalty.-

 

 

 

(1) Except as provided in paragraph (2) of this subsection, a person who violates subsection (a) of this section is guilty of the felony of rape in the second degree and on conviction is subject to imprisonment not exceeding 20 years.

 

 

 

(2) (i) Subject to subparagraph (iii) of this paragraph, a person 18 years of age or older who violates subsection ( of this section is guilty of the felony of rape in the second degree and on conviction is subject to imprisonment for not less than 5 years and not exceeding 20 years.

 

 

 

 

 

(ii) A court may not suspend any part of the mandatory minimum sentence of 5 years.

 

 

 

(iii) If the State fails to comply with subsection (d) of this section, the mandatory minimum shall not apply.

2. suffocate, strangle, disfigure, or inflict serious physical injury on the victim or another in the course of committing the crime;

 

3. threaten, or place the victim in fear, that the victim, or an individual known to the victim, imminently will be subject to death, suffocation, strangulation, disfigurement, serious physical injury, or kidnapping; or

 

4. commit the crime while aided and abetted by another;

 

(2) engage in sexual contact with another if the victim is a mentally defective individual, a mentally incapacitated individual, or a physically helpless individual, and the person performing the act knows or reasonably should know the victim is a mentally defective individual, a mentally incapacitated individual, or a physically helpless individual;

 

(3) engage in sexual contact with another if the victim is under the age of 14 years, and the person performing the sexual contact is at least 4 years older than the victim;

 

(4) engage in a sexual act with another if the victim is 14 or 15 years old, and the person performing the sexual act is at least 21 years old; or

 

(5) engage in vaginal intercourse with another if the victim is 14 or 15 years old, and the person performing the act is at least 21 years old.

 

( Penalty.- A person who violates this section is guilty of the felony of sexual offense in the third degree and on conviction is subject to imprisonment not exceeding 10 years.

 

 

 

 

 

§ 3-308. Sexual offense in the fourth degree.

 

 

 

(a) "Person in a position of authority" defined.- In this section, "person in a position of authority":

 

(1) means a person who:

 

 

 

(i) is at least 21 years old;

 

 

 

(ii) is employed as a full-time permanent employee by a public or private preschool, elementary school, or secondary school; and

 

 

 

(iii) because of the person's position or occupation, exercises supervision over a minor who attends the school; and

 

 

 

(2) includes a principal, vice principal, teacher, or school counselor at a public or private preschool, elementary school, or secondary school.

 

( Prohibited.- A person may not engage in:

 

 

 

(1) sexual contact with another without the consent of the other;

 

(2) except as provided in § 3-307(a)(4) of this subtitle, a sexual act with another if the victim is 14 or 15 years old, and the person performing the sexual act is at least 4 years older than the victim; or

 

 

 

(3) except as provided in § 3-307(a)(5) of this subtitle, vaginal intercourse with another if the victim is 14 or 15 years old, and the person performing the act is at least 4 years older than the victim.

 

© Sexual abuse of a minor student by a person in a position of authority.-

 

 

 

(1) Except as provided in § 3-307(a)(4) of this subtitle or subsection ((2) of this section, a person in a position of authority may not engage in a sexual act or sexual contact with a minor who, at the time of the sexual act or sexual contact, is a student enrolled at a school where the person in a position of authority is employed.

 

(2) Except as provided in § 3-307(a)(5) of this subtitle or subsection ((3) of this section, a person in a position of authority may not engage in vaginal intercourse with a minor who, at the time of the vaginal intercourse, is a student enrolled at a school where the person in a position of authority is employed.

 

(d) Penalty.-

 

 

 

(1) Except as provided in paragraph (2) of this subsection, a person who violates this section is guilty of the misdemeanor of sexual offense in the fourth degree and on conviction is subject to imprisonment not exceeding 1 year or a fine not exceeding $1,000 or both.

 

(2) (i) On conviction of a violation of this section, a person who has been convicted on a prior occasion not arising from the same incident of a violation of §§ 3-303 through 3-312 or § 3-315 of this subtitle or § 3-602 of this title is subject to imprisonment not exceeding 3 years or a fine not exceeding $1,000 or both.

 

 

 

(ii) If the State intends to proceed against a person under subparagraph (i) of this paragraph, it shall comply with the procedures set forth in the Maryland Rules for the indictment and trial of a subsequent offender.
