tonybower Posted May 13, 2008 at 11:08 AM Posted May 13, 2008 at 11:08 AM Good question...As long as you have a good map of the metro then you can't really go wrong, I think. It is much better sign posted than the London Underground and there are more stops so you never have to go far before you find another metro station. As for hotels, there is one right in Bercy village which costs about 100euros. I just booked myself in there. But there are others of course...For example, there is an Ibis right by the Gare de Lyon station which is a stone's throw from Bercy arena. Also, taxis are not as expensive as you might think, if worse comes to the worse. At least, I've never had a bad experience in a Paris taxi. If you have any more concerns or questions, just let me know...! The cost for the hotel is too high . Is it allowed and safe to stay all night at the station? I wanna get the early train back to Germany and dont wanna spend another 50 eu just for a sleep You're right... it is expensive... I have just cancelled my room and booked a hostel for much cheaper. €40.I'm not sure about staying in the station. I'm sure the main stations are open through the night but I'm not sure how safe they are if you're alone. In company, it's probably fine. what time is the first train to Germany? If the show finishes about 11pm I'm sure there are plenty of things to do to pass the hours. Some people might want to go on to a bar afterwards so that might be an idea. Is it safe to share the hostel room with you ? The first train to Germany is around 6am but if many join each other and make a small tour around Paris, I'm very happy to join you too. It just takes me 3 hours to get home from Paris so it's not a big deal if I stay a little longer in Paris . Edited May 13, 2008 at 11:25 AM by DuonganhCDF Quote

tonybower Posted May 16, 2008 at 04:55 PM Posted May 16, 2008 at 04:55 PM Sometimes I think the day passes are quite expensive because they are aimed at tourists. You can buy a book of 10 normal tickets for 11€50 and each ticket gives you one journey within zone 1. You probably won't leave zone 1 until you go to the airport so it's a good deal. If the weather is noce you will probably find that you will do a lot of walking because Paris really is best explored on foot. So it means if you don't make 10 metro journies in one day your tickets will still be valid for the rest of your trip, whereas I imagine a day pass only lasts 24h. But judging by Adeline's info the day passes don't some too expensive. I suppose it depends on how much you use the metro.Train from the airport (zone 5) costs 8€20 Quote iPod Most Played List The Power Of Love (several versions) - Céline DionThe First Time Ever I Saw Your Face - Roberta FlackSi dieu existe - Céline Dion & Claude DuBoisFrankenstein - Antony & the JohnsonsIn Some Small Way - Céline DionBird Gerhl - Antony & the JohnsonsLe blues du businessman - Céline Dion Ne rien savoir de Lol était la connaître déjà.

tonybower Posted May 16, 2008 at 05:20 PM Posted May 16, 2008 at 05:20 PM Yup. It's in the 18th district. All 20 districts of Paris are in zone 1 so everything you need to see tourist attraction-wise (monuments and museums) is in zone 1. You're really near the sacré-coeur and montmartre so quite a good location. tonybower Posted May 16, 2008 at 05:37 PM Posted May 16, 2008 at 05:37 PM (edited) Yeh. Buses are great in France. Clean and friendly. It's good to see Paris from above ground too but there are metro stops on every corner and they're much quicker so you will probably use them more. If there are two people travelling I would buy one book of ten to begin with and share them just to see how you get on. You'll find that once you take the metro to one area you will probably spend a lot of time there walking around so you might be surprised how little time you spend on transport. Remember one ticket=one single journey. The journey starts when you enter the first station and ends when you exit the last station. That might sound obvious but it's with making it clear. Basically, as long as you stay in zone 1 you can pass through as many stations as you need and make as many connections as is necessary. It is still one journey until you have to use the ticket and physically exit the metro. In that respect it is very convenient and very cheap (1€50 per ticket and it gets you from one of the city to the other!) hope you enjoy Paris. Can't wait for the show on Monday! CelineRox Posted May 16, 2008 at 06:05 PM Posted May 16, 2008 at 06:05 PM Heya We are staying in a hotal on the avenue de wagram, and along with sight seeing etc we will need to get to Bercy, so do you think we should get a ticket for zone 1-6?Also how close is the avenue de wagram to the George V hotel that Celine is staying in? Quote http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm31/celinedion82/Emilylove-signature-1.jpg
tonybower Posted May 16, 2008 at 06:14 PM Posted May 16, 2008 at 06:14 PM (edited) Nope, you just need a regular metro ticket. Av Wagram and Bercy are both in zone 1. The only difference is Av Wagram is in the 17th and the 8th district and Bercy is in the 12th. But that changes nothing. They are both zone 1 so no need for a separate ticket. Av de Wagram is quite long so it really depends which end you are at. If you are near the Arc de Triomphe you are very close to George V but if you are further up in the 17th district you could be a couple of metro stops away. What is the postcode for your hotel? 75008 or 75017? tonybower Posted May 16, 2008 at 07:01 PM Posted May 16, 2008 at 07:01 PM (edited) Well, that means you're in the 17th district but you could still be near the George V which is in the 8th. However, it is possible that you are further north in which case you might need to get the metro. That won't be a problem if you are on Av Wagram because you will only be a couple of stops away. You take line 2 (which goes down Av Wagram) and you'll get off at Charles De Gaulle-Etoile. This is the Arc de Triomphe and Champs Elysée station. George V is in walking distance from there (it is on a street just of the Champs Elysée.)
