New Book: Celine Dion 'Let's Talk About Love - A Journey to the End of Taste'

Hi guys!!

I'm working as a research assistant for an author writing a book about Celine Dion that will be published in late 2007. We’re looking for Celine fans to chat with about their interest in Celine, and her music, and specifically about the 'Let's Talk about Love' album.

I'm not sure if this kind of post is against forum rules? If it's not, and any of you are interested in being asked some questions (probably via email) please let me know by private message.

Thanks so much!!

hey guys,

here's a bit more information about the project.

It's not a biography but a book about the phenomenon of the Let's Talk About Love album and the Titanic theme, its worldwide success and people's feelings about it. Here is a link to the Wikipedia entry about the series of books that this will be published in:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/33%E2%85%93

And a quote from the Boston Phoenix: "Continuum Books’ 33 1/3 series is the sort of great idea you can’t believe hasn’t been done before: enlist critics and musicians to write chapbook-length meditations on their favorite albums, setting the scene for the works' conception, probing the particulars of their creation, delving into every track, and, especially, enlivening criticism with the writers’ own personal connections to the music."

I hope that helps give a bit more clarification on what we're trying to do. Let me know if you'd be interested in helping us out!

Thanks!

BRILLIANT!

This is a PHENOMENAL album.

The greatest and most eclectic collaborations made this album a landmark in Celine's career and Celine's life. It carried on-board one of the most successful records in music history : "My Heart Will Go On." Sir George Martin produced "The Reason" a song written by and featured Carole King. A psuedo-rap/reggae collaboration with Diana King and Brownstone gave birth to "Treat Her Like a Lady." Celine recorded a historical masterpiece with her idol Barbra Streisand in "Tell Him." An emotional masterpiece of Italian pop proportions were expressed through "I Hate You Then I Love You" a duet with Luciano Pavarotti. The Bee Gees wrote and recorded with Celine the song "Immortality" - an anthem of forever love. Canadian hearthtrob Corey Hart wrote "Miles to Go" for Celine. She covered Julio Iglesia's classic "When I Need You." There was so much more! There was just so much in this amazingly produced album!

This album surely touched my heart and my soul.

And! Must I add the EXTRAORDINARY Jean Jacque Goldman and Bryan Adam collaborated to write the album's theme song "Let's Talk About Love."

So, Let's Talk!

Celine Dion's Let's Talk About Love

Carl Wilson

Pub Date: 1 May 2007

paperback

144 Pages

Synopsis

This book is a riveting investigation of what it means to love music and what it means to hate music, both of good taste and bad taste.

Description

Non-fans regard Céline Dion as ersatz and plastic, yet to those who love her, no one could be more real, with her impoverished childhood, her (creepy) manager-husband’s struggle with cancer, her knack for howling out raw emotion. There’s nothing cool about Céline Dion, and nothing clever. That’s part of her appeal as an object of love or hatred — with most critics and committed music fans taking pleasure (or at least geeky solace) in their lofty contempt. This book documents Carl Wilson’s brave and unprecedented year-long quest to fi nd his inner Céline Dion fan, and explores how we defi ne ourselves in the light of what we call good and bad, what we love and what we hate.

Authors

Carl Wilson

Carl Wilson is a writer and editor in Toronto, Canada, at the Globe and Mail. He has written a weekly music column there for more than four years. One of his columns was reprinted in Da Capo's Best Music Writing 2002 volume, edited by Jonathan Lethem.

woww i think it's a very interesting research...but as u'll find out while doing those interviews - most fans love the other songs from the album much more than "my heart will go on" and while for the general public celine and this album r well known(for good and for bad) thanks to "my heart will go on" , for us , the fans , there r many other emotional and amazing songs on this album and on her other records - songs that were never released as singles because they r less commercial , songs that if alot of the people that love to hate her so much would hear , they might just change their minds...

celine is known for her bombastic ballads , some people think it's all about her voice while the lyrics r shallow but those people obviously never heard most of her songs , they only heard the singles that many of us , fans , dont approve either...

anyhow - love her or hate her , u just cant ignore CELINE DION which already means something i guess :msn-wink:

I'm excited to read this book!

That's right... Celine's not cool...

SHE'S HOT!

SO HOT, she's maybe THE MOST SUCCESSFUL female artist during the course of her career (25 years total; 18 Internationally).

I was interviewed by Carl Wilson today. He is such a nice and wonderful man! The interview lasted a little under an hour and it ranged from multiple topics.

If any of you want more info. I'll be more than happy to share SOME of the details, but not much. I can't give away much about the book.

Than you Carl and Laurie for your work!

With love,

Joe

A 331/3 book based on Celine Dion's "Let's Talk About Love," by Toronto Globe and Mail music writer Carl Wilson, is coming out soon.

"We've had a lot of aggro about that," Barker says, adding that fans of the series have expressed their aggravation on the 331/3 site.

"Wilson doesn't like Celine Dion's music, and he's basically spent 18 months immersing himself in her music and talking to her fans and … people who hate her, Barker says. "It's a book about what is good taste and what is bad taste, and why do people get so angry about things like Celine Dion."

Well, It should focus on "Let's Tal About Love only 'cos I'm sure there are a lot of stories to tell. And how about a book on Celine Dion songs that became a soundtrack? I'm sure there were a lot from Celine like "When I Fall In Love", "Beauty And The Beast", etc...

I can even consider Celine Dion as Queen Of Soundtracks!(",)

I want to inform all of you that a few months back, I had a fabulous conversation with Carl Wilson, the author of this book. We talked for a long time. It was a very cordial conversation.

"Celine Dion's Let's Talk About Love: A Journey to the End of Taste (33 1/3)" is a must-have!

Also, Carl wrote about me in this book.
