unicorn Posted October 24, 2006 at 04:12 PM Posted October 24, 2006 at 04:12 PM HiI was heard today for the first time, Dreams to dream, that was offered to Celine, to sing it, but it was sing by Linda Rondstad finally, but why????Because Linda was "older" in the business world?Celine has better voice that she.Take a look at this:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yHABWqZPGBo An American Tail: Fievel Goes West: (James Horner) A very good, although sometimes repetitious Horner/animated film score. Alone, it is a good effort, but compared to other scores that Horner has produced for animated children's films such as The Land Before Time, Balto, and, of course, the original American Tail, this score is only average. The score tracks excel over the songs, which , in some cases, are practically intolerable. Horner does add a heavy Western twist to this score, which is something new for him. Some of it even sounds like the Goldsmith westerns of the 1960s, however the majority of it is a mutation of Horner's typical, classical style... Which isn't to say that it is not enjoyable! Some of the tracks are downright fun (albeit a bit loud). Tracks 3 and 12 have some creative use of percussion and rhythm. Only twice, in tracks 9 and 14, does Horner utilize his trademark children's/women's choir to add depth to the orchestra, and both of these cues are short. In dramatic magic, this score falls well short of the original American Tail. There's nothing mysterious or powerful about this score. In these regards, it's much like the latter half of We're Back: A Dinosaurs Story. The original "Somewhere Out There" theme, a classic among the best of animated films, never appears at the forefront --which is very disappointing! Granted, Horner weaves it into the opening orchestral suite, and pieces of it are forced into subsequent tracks, but I believe that --as the title song of Fievel-- it should have been used in full a few times. Perhaps most disturbingly, Horner doesn't pay tribute to it at all during the finale of the score. As for the songs, the title one, "Dreams to Dream," is a very good song. Linda Ronstadt, a veteran, replaced Horner's first choice of performer, Celine Dion, for the song because the producers of the film claimed that no one had ever heard of Dion --which could have been true for the time. Ronstadt performs the song well, however, and even though it wasn't received with the same open arms as "Somewhere Out There," it earned a Golden Globe nomination. The character's performance in track 7 is also enjoyable. The other two songs, at tracks 5 and 11, are a loud disgrace to the album, and break up the listening experience as a whole. Overall, this score, although bright with Western personality and themes, falls a few steps behind the original American Tail. The song is very good, though, and the best moments of An American Tail: Fievel Goes West are those in which Horner combines his new themes with "Somewhere Out There." If a compilation was ever released combining the best score and song tracks from both albums, I'd be overjoyed. source:http://www.filmtracks.com/titles/american_tail2.html Please, cry with me:((( Quote Visit My Website

krazy_kool_dude Posted October 24, 2006 at 04:39 PM Posted October 24, 2006 at 04:39 PM i downloaded the song a year ago when i was told Celine missed out on it to see what its like, i didn't like it though but now it's alright. I don't know what's worse Celine not getting it to be her song, or her recording it and not allowing us to hear it! Quote http://img345.imageshack.us/img345/4136/siggyju5.jpg
nati Posted October 24, 2006 at 06:41 PM Posted October 24, 2006 at 06:41 PM Maybe she doesn't want us to hear it because she was so devastated that she wasn't chosen to sing. Because didn't Rene have to push her into singing Beauty and the Beast because Fievel happened shortly before beauty and the beast, and I remember hearing Celine was completely torn by the fact she wasn't chosen. Besides Celine has had many big hits in movies that no one else has. She's the diva of music soundtracks. Quote Thanks Celine for the great memories. I will never forget you

But i think everything happened for the best!! B&B fit Celine perfectly, beautiful children's movie (my fave as a kid!) and it also had french in it, and helped Celine to become a household name! ByuSmurf Posted October 25, 2006 at 09:21 AM Posted October 25, 2006 at 09:21 AM Speilberg obviously dropped the ball by NOT choosing Céline and got egg all over his face when Disney chose Celine to record B&tB which won NUMEROUS awards and helped her launched her English career!Celine and Rene get the last laugh over a Speilberg rejection!!! firebird Posted October 25, 2006 at 12:36 PM Posted October 25, 2006 at 12:36 PM I always thought how Celine could make this a good song, adding a little bit more drama to it, because Linda Ronstadt interpretation is really boring in my opinion. Quote

Don’t understand that considering the film didn’t come out until late ‘91, by which time all the singles from unison had been released. If that’s true, I honestly don’t understand what Mottola was thinking. I’ve always thought it was purely the powers that be wanted Linda because she already had made her name in America, and had also sang on the first American Tail soundtrack. Quote

The info has been in the Celine biography official in 1997. At this time, when Celine has been calling to recording the song, this has been in march 1991, and Celine released the album in US at this time since only 6 months. Celine has been unknown in US, Celine just been achieve at this time his first hit with Where Does My Heart Beat Now. And then Celine was invited to record the song Beauty & The Beast. Disney wanted a new artist so she wouldn't have been chosen if the other version had been released. Lucky Celine! Yes, and originally, Celine refuse this song, because Celine has been devasted to not choice by Speingberg for Dreams to Dream. Celine accept only to recording the song after the test projection of the movie in Los Angeles. and the rest has been the history. 1 Quote
