tativale Posted October 9, 2006 at 01:09 AM Posted October 9, 2006 at 01:09 AM (edited) I want to buy a new computer. Since March-Abril that my old pc got broken that I decided to have a mac. My dad and my sister have a mac and I love it. But, my dad told me not to buy a mac in Brazil because here it's much more expensiver than in US and the model is old. The thing is that for the price of a mac here - a old one - I can buy 2 new ones in US. He said he would help me with that. For months the responsable people from the govern - (I dont know the name in english now) - are in strike. So, I had to wait all this time. I guess, by now, it's over, thansk God! lol But now I don't know what I want. If I get a mac or a pc.... some people say that mac is better. Some say windows is better.... I'm used with PC, but since my dad has a mac, I started to get to know it more. I love photoshop, etc so I thought mac would be great. I love the monitor... simply great!!! Anyway.. if I go for mac I'll have to wait I don't know how long.... - I have to call my dad and ask him for that... - if I buy a pc surely things will be faster. For now, I'm using a old pc of my dad - that changes a lot lol - it was Sony one but something got broken and we had to buy a new cabinet. I installed my 'old' DVD-RW and CD-RW drivers because the ones that were here, they were pretty old although they're Pionner and Sony. Mine is LG.... lol And my notebook (poor one lol very simple is windows too) I could go for an Ibook too, but I don't like it - I mean, I like it a lot, it's small much better than my notebook which is heavy. But then I would have to have the PC (Desktop) and the iBook, both which would be great LOL heheh but I cant afford an ibook now... unless I wait for January and go to US and buy one there. It's an option. Okay.. does anyone has any suggestion? Pc or mac? hehe I'm looking for something with high resolution for images, videos etc. Design (photoshop, etc). Thank you so much!!! celinerific Posted October 9, 2006 at 01:39 AM Posted October 9, 2006 at 01:39 AM Well.. Macs are good for designing and media creations and such. PCs are good for personal and everyday use. So it depends what you prefer doing. Quote http://i58.tinypic.com/2qbub9c.png @ErikaTran | Insta: aireexwp | erikatran.com
Bellamy Posted October 9, 2006 at 01:52 AM Posted October 9, 2006 at 01:52 AM If you want too use the old softwares you have and don't want to learn how to use computer again, stay on PC. If you don't mind the limited software on Mac(which is enough for daily use, and design...), and can send a few days to learn to use it, also can afford it, then switch to Mac. Céline's Blues Posted October 9, 2006 at 08:16 AM Posted October 9, 2006 at 08:16 AM Tativale, in your case I would definitely switch to a Mac! These computers unlike the PCs do not age that fast. You will be enjoying it at least 5 years from now without having to re-install the whole system even ONCE. Quote http://i.imgur.com/dmreJ.jpg
AllCeline Posted October 11, 2006 at 01:18 AM Posted October 11, 2006 at 01:18 AM (edited) Personally, I would stick with a PC. Macs may seem sleek and "durable" but propper care of a PC gets you the same results. I've been using PC's for an eternity and I can't complain. I've had my share use of Macs as well and I'd always go with a PC over Mac anyday. Like Bellamy said, if you go with a Mac, you'll be limited in software. Plus, with progression, I've come to find that PC's work great for design and media as well. If you're going to get a PC, which I recommend, I'd wait a few more months till Vista is released (it's suppose to be out sometime Jan. to early spring next year). So many people love Macs because of their sleek design and the abiltity to work with media. But like I said, with recent improvements in PC's, I've found that they're now working great for media as well as your everyday tasks. And of course, it runs everything out there. I myself will be getting a Dell XPS 700 next year. Anyway, I hope this helps. Of course, the choice is yours. I'm sure you'll love whatever you decide to get. Here in Brazil it takes more time for things get here and when it's new it's too expensive. So, when Alta Vista us released I can wait and buy it separaly. Thanks for your help!!!! Dell? I think I'll go for Dell too. For monitor, which brandy? Sony? Samsung? etc... The monthly Windows re-installations cuzz you would get a blue screen otherwise? My problem with Windows is that it's becoming slower and slowe with each and every new programme you install on it. It is tenous, truly tenous and ridiculous. Hardware is fast as of today but Windows is NOT. Also Vista will be even slower than Xp and I can't dare to imagine how sluggish it will be. Windows architechture stems from the early 1990 and it's still used in Vista which is really pathetic. With a mac on the other hand you will get everything to get your job done, without problems. I will be buying a mac next year as soon as Leopard (the new operating system) is launched and forget about tenuousnesses of Windows. Quote http://i.imgur.com/dmreJ.jpg

I've got some good hardware to go along with it. But I think a lot of people fail to realize that the only reason Microsoft is the main target for viruses is because it is what's being mostly used. If Mac was to be dominant, I'm posotive viruses would be targeted mainly to Macs. But it's like I said earlier, many people don't know how to properly take care of their systen hense the reason for all the re-installations and crashes. And if you're not doing anything major with your system's registry files or using your system for testing purposes, you'll find that with propper care and know-how, your PC will last. It has its really nice variety in software and fabulous games written for it! But you can't tell me that you can use Windows for more than 6 months without loosing the initial speed. It's oh so fast when you install it on the first day but as you add more and more programs that tweak the registry and install more and more useless DLL files onto your HDD it's becoming slower and slower. It's ridiculous - that is what I mean when I say "outdated". Its architecture stems from the 90's and it's still being used. Despite of various updates and stuff. Vista ain't gonna change that I fear. It's been stripped down from its initial features by 75%. It's only Windows XP Plus! You can use Windows, of course but what settle for less if you can have more with Leopard? OK, for games you will just boot into Windows but for your every day's work you'd stick with your Mac. Especially if they re-boot twice as faster as normal PCs cuzz they have next generation BIOS included. Hard desicion! I still don't know if I'd switch because I have way too much software for PC. : |<{POST_SNAPBACK}>Clarissa, you can run Windows on a mac as well! So that should not be a tough choice. Especially that you get a quality hardware you won't ever get from Dell. Quote http://i.imgur.com/dmreJ.jpg

Céline's Blues Posted October 18, 2006 at 10:49 AM Posted October 18, 2006 at 10:49 AM For tativale: Stay the heck away from Dell! Look, this company got only 4 pitiful points for reliability! They'Re the biggest crap EVER. If you want to buy a PC go for Packard-Bell or Lenovo (IBM). A new report out by computer repair and support company RESCUECOM suggests that Apple is maintaining its overall high reliability scores. In the report's rating system (where a larger number is better) Apple scored a 201, second only to IBM/Lenovo which scored 243. The next-best was HP/Compaq with a score of 12, and market leader Dell only had a score of 4. Negative scores were possible, as Gateway (-12) and other manufacturers (-16) demonstrated.
