The only reason she performs the way she does is because she is actually feeling everything she is saying and gets carried away. She doesn't 'look' butch, infact she is very feminine and elegant but many of her traits can be associated with a more butch woman. For example, the way she struts around on stage, she has a swagger that is really confident and strong. Also, the way she stands with her legs spread far apart on stage and sings- she has a powerful presence that's for sure! It is unlike any other female singer; Celine knows how to own that stage! Also, often when she sits I have noticed she sits with her legs open very casual and sure of herself which I think adds to her 'butchiness'. I think when Celine had short spikey hair people began to notice that she was very butch because her image at that time matched or even exacerbated the butch traits she has. She's just awesome!!! She's too petite to be called butch. The standing with legs apart on stage is just her power stance- but I don't think she goes around scratching her crotch and lifting her leg to fart or anything.
