I think she sang live. Quote If there was Diva Live, I would suggest Celine Dion + Shania Twain + Faith Hill + Barbra Streisand + Delta Goodrem
Bellamy Posted June 25, 2006 at 04:20 PM Posted June 25, 2006 at 04:20 PM Yes, everyone on Olympic Games ceremony use playback. Gloria, Tina Arena, Bjork............... did it too. Quote Please support the forum by ordering everything through our special Amazon.com link Click here. Thank you!

Ororo Munroe Posted June 25, 2006 at 04:57 PM Posted June 25, 2006 at 04:57 PM no it's not a playback, she sings on the record Quote
CSCfan Posted June 25, 2006 at 04:58 PM Posted June 25, 2006 at 04:58 PM (edited) That's not it (so no offense to 'cwnice'), it's that just everything seems revolve around "lip-synching", and here is yet another question about that 'phenomenon'. If she sings live, fantastic! And if she's not, there must be a reason why.. If it was up to Céline she would sing everything live, but sadly, it's not.. (Here is another example, the topic is about 'best audiences' and suddenly it's about 'lip-synching' again.) Thomas Posted June 25, 2006 at 05:02 PM Posted June 25, 2006 at 05:02 PM It certainly was playback but it wasn't her choice so no one could use that against Celine anyway. When you have billions of people watching from all over the world you have to make sure nothing goes wrong. You can't risk a microphone problem, feedback, interference or the many other problems that can happen during a live performance. So the Olympic production committee insists that all songs are recorded in advance. It's no big deal. Quote
catwomanrrr Posted June 25, 2006 at 05:05 PM Posted June 25, 2006 at 05:05 PM She sang LIVE, I think, for 3 seconds, and it was the part between the chorus part, where she does the "YEAHHHHHHHH", and the rest, I think was pre-recorded. Thomas Posted June 25, 2006 at 06:11 PM Posted June 25, 2006 at 06:11 PM That's right! She inserted her own little vocal flurry in the musical break. Quote

That "vocal flurry" sounded worse during the "Live in Memphis" concert. Edited June 25, 2006 at 06:22 PM by Joy Quote http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n28/rhymereason/dreambig.jpg
leenylover Posted June 25, 2006 at 06:38 PM Posted June 25, 2006 at 06:38 PM I'm sure Celine already covered this in an interview. I think I remember her saying that due to the size of the stadium and getting the sound and other things technically right it is necessary to use pre-recorded sound. I'm not sure, but I believe it was something like that. Love Lisaxxx Quote My List of Celine Dion stuff, PM me to trade!
disadiva Posted June 25, 2006 at 07:11 PM Posted June 25, 2006 at 07:11 PM Yes she did i think everyone does so nothing goes wrong and i remember one performance she did and there was no playback there and it was when she sang Une Colombe For John Paul the pop. Heavenly voice indeed. Quote http://i46.tinypic.com/2nvtcpl.jpg
loonybox Posted June 25, 2006 at 07:22 PM Posted June 25, 2006 at 07:22 PM i believe she sings live. It's difficult to know. It's such an important event so it should be live. But i don't think that Celine would sing live all the time. Maybe now yes cause she has no voice left. But before she used to protect her voice so much...ie: she was obliged to sing live for 9/11 although she wanted to lipsync. Quote
amin27cd Posted June 25, 2006 at 07:24 PM Posted June 25, 2006 at 07:24 PM She sang LIVE, I think, for 3 seconds, and it was the part between the chorus part, where she does the "YEAHHHHHHHH", and the rest, I think was pre-recorded. <{POST_SNAPBACK}>thats true.you r right. that part was not on the original version, so she sang only 3 second live ? or the whole song was live !!!! catwomanrrr Posted June 25, 2006 at 07:51 PM Posted June 25, 2006 at 07:51 PM She sang REALLY LIVE for the "Live in Memphis" concert, which I thought was a phenomenal performance And for the Olympics one, it's completely alright, because we already know that's her voice, and that's her power! Thomas Posted June 25, 2006 at 08:49 PM Posted June 25, 2006 at 08:49 PM ie: she was obliged to sing live for 9/11 although she wanted to lipsync.<{POST_SNAPBACK}>I don't think that's quite what she wanted to do. I remember her saying that she thought she would sing it in a TV studio (in Florida or somewhere close to her home) and they would record it and show the footage in the 911 show in New York. Then when they said they wanted the artists live in person, she felt worried about leaving Rene Charles who was only a baby at the time. She said this during ANDHC special, I think. But she went and she sang and she was glad she did. But there's no suggestion that she would have sang playback if she simply recorded a performance in advance. Quote
ro.77 Posted June 25, 2006 at 08:51 PM Posted June 25, 2006 at 08:51 PM she sang it live!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Quote remember her name .......cause you'll never forget the voice.
traceline Posted June 25, 2006 at 09:23 PM Posted June 25, 2006 at 09:23 PM 3 seconds? But it's too short.I guess that live was live because that was olympic games billions of people watching it! Quote
lesfrancaise Posted July 9, 2006 at 07:49 AM Posted July 9, 2006 at 07:49 AM celine didn't lipsync on the power of the dream at olympics, try comparing the studio recording of her song and the song at olympics, you'll hear her singing "oh yeahhh.." at the last part before she sings the end line "to realize the power of the dream..." alextrusca Posted July 9, 2006 at 10:56 AM Posted July 9, 2006 at 10:56 AM It was playback, listen to the song on the Collector's Series 1.Just because she did a yeah yeah at the end, it doesn't mean it was live...Maybe that yeah yeah was also playback... firebird Posted July 9, 2006 at 12:20 PM Posted July 9, 2006 at 12:20 PM I love that song. It's really one of her most beautiful - so much power and emotion. She sang REALLY LIVE for the "Live in Memphis" concert, which I thought was a phenomenal performance <{POST_SNAPBACK}>That was indeed a phenomenal performance. Another amazing performances was her performance in Ghent in 1996, the notes she belts out at the end are breathtaking , or at Jones Beach, where she performed it just a few days after the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. justinecoria Posted July 9, 2006 at 05:41 PM Posted July 9, 2006 at 05:41 PM (edited) It was live. Even Celine said it, at least she implied it. She said she stopped talking for quite long (a week ?) before that concert. And someone (2 people in fact) said that when they encoded the video, the music and Celine's voice were not synchronised, which is a proof that she sang it live. Wasn't "The Power of the Dream" an original song that wasn't in any album when she sang it at the Olympics ? They probably added the song on "The Colour Of My Love" later, , and removed the part when Celine say "yeah, yeah", because on an album it wouldn't sound great. If someone tells me that he bought the Colour of My Love before the Olympics and had the same version of the Power of the Dream, then okay, I'll have to agree that it was playback. But, it doesn't look like it was playback, the way Celine moved, the way she sang and "screamed" as if she knew she had to do that in that big stadium. So in fact, it was completely new when performed at the Olympic Games, in fact that was funny, because Gloria Estefan's song who was promoted as the Olympic song was released before. Does anyone know, why they decided for "The power of the dream" instead? Quote
