Do you mean fixing the pitch of her voice in the studio by digital means? Okay, wait...did a search...that is what you mean.

Alright, well, I'm sure it most certainly is used even by Celine's producers and engineers. Why? Not because she really requires it, but because it is sort of the 'thing to do' in many studios. Studio recordings ask for nothing less than perfection...almost inhuman perfection...and though Celine is fabulous and has great pitch, they're still going to use autotune to, every once and awhile, take a stellar vocal, and make it 'outstanding'. It's sort of routine nowadays. It's nothing against Celine. It's just a means of making a studio recording pristine, and there are many other means they use to do this as well. It's really no worse than all the other edits and effects they perform.

And I should say that it won't be used on every note of every song. If that were the case, she wouldn't dare sing live!! In Celine's case, it's probably just used on certain important notes, very long notes, really high notes that may waver, or fast ad-lib runs that they'd like to keep but were only off-the-cuff and not perfectly in tune. You know, that kind of thing. She's not deceiveing her fans at all.

without even taking ANY time out to research what is AUTO-TUNE, i would just like to say that this thread is LAME, and, therefore, should be removed.

as if anyone here could accuse CELINE and her PRODUCERS of TUNING her tracks...

lame...

p.s.: and please, don't be lame and ban me from this forum for expressing my point of view, but i will reiterate what i just said: this thread bites!

EVERY singer uses it...I am a singer and I have used it as well. It is only the degree in which becomes a problem. For example, Brittney Spears uses it for eveything. Celine, and other good artists use it just as a check to make it "perfect", for notes that do sound perfect, but due to the crystal clear recording, will polish it a bit. That is the main diff, good singers use it as a polish...bad singers use it as a voice.

that's exactly what i mean i mean some artists uses it all of the time and no body knows and they become great artists after all and tn\hat bothers me ,what's the notes or parts of the songs that u think celine used aut tune in?for me i think all by my self bec live it nver souned as perfect as the cd what do u think?

celine is celine

She uses Pro-Tools. If you look at the credits in A New Day Has Come booklet, it is quoted for some songs. I didn't look for the other albums, but at least she doesn't overuse it like Cher or Britney Spears who create horrible sound effects with that.

Yeah, it's used on some songs on the ANDHC album (obviously), but she she rarely used it before her break.. David Foster commented on this during an interview once (was it the A&E biography?).. :)

It was on "The View" they were showing how you can take someone with virtually no vocal talent (on of the gals) and record a pretty decent sounding track using all the "studio magic" technology these days... one of the ladies was asking him out of all the great singers he has recorded with, who was vocally the best (or something to that degree) and another of the ladies said it had to be Celine and David agreed saying that Celine can get it 95% of the way there and thats the closest to perfection he's ever heard...or something like that, you get the picture :D

Yes, it's quoted on 11 out of 17 songs, and you see that they use it wisely, you wouldn't expect it on songs like "At Last". If you do a studio album, you're always looking for perfection. I don't see anything wrong with it.

If you listen to "A new day has come" live, she sings it really good (most of the times) just like on the album, so the Pro Tool doesn't make a lot of difference.

fans,

well, now that i have read throught this thread, i can, just to say slightly, accept what is being discussed here but...

ok, sure, fine, if she has had it used on her voice in the past, then so be it, but really...

do any of you really think that stating that our precious CELINE uses AUTO-TUNE (or PRO-TUNE) for anything will have any positive effect on her career?

i tend to think NOT...

and, if i offended anyone (with my reference to THUMPER), by all means, this was not my intent...

anyway, CELINE is, to me, the finest singer ever, in terms of:

- versatility

- tone

- emotion

- live performing capabilites

- all other technical aspects

man, she's just CELINE!

and yah, i LOVE her!

now can we all quit accusing her of taking short-cuts? we all know how hard that woman (and her team) works; now let's all PRAISE them for their accomplishments (e.g., diamond award, forbes rating, a new day... success)!

peace!

guys i just want to say that in this forum when we talk about any thing it's not that anyone of us is trying to make celine look bad and always the end is that celine is greatset singer and that's it and we don't talk any more ,bec thats what i see in any thread that any one starts,i mean why we come here all of as ?to talk about a woman that we all love and adore right,so lets just say what we want and talk about it freely bec we know the end is that we all love celine and we don't need from any one of us to just reminds us with that bec just coming here and talking about it is the proof
Posted
well, I'm going to talk freely, because to me, Celine is a human like each one of us - it's just that she is a role model to us. I do not regard her as any goddess or superhuman being. Having that said, I have listened to a lot of Celine's live performances on TV and I have even seen her live in Vegas. I am assuming that most of you here have no knowledge of pitch and tune. And you are defending Celine JUST BECAUSE you are a diehard fan. But truth is, Celine goes off-pitch some times too, because she's human. I remember her performance of "What a Wonderful World," at the end, she was trying to ad-lib a little, and she just went completely off. Also, many times when Celine sings "I'm Alive," she starts off with the phrase "When you call on me..." off-pitch (mostly during 2003-2004). I do not want to point flaws, because we should concentrate on the positive. However, Celine is not a person who was born with PERFECT pitch. I know my former music teacher was born with perfect pitch, and so is David Foster. These people can sense and sing the notes as close on pitch as possible. However, since they are human, they are not 100% correct... maybe close... but not 100%. So, if Celine uses autotune, which I am 100% sure Vito Luprano and her recording executives use... more power to her!

I honestly don't think the autotune is even needed... Celine sings great. Beyond bes of the best. It's just the producers and others that expect too much from Celine :glare:

Well I love when Celine doesn't sing perfectly cuz it only solidifies her as a normal human being, and like many ppl have said, she is not prefect, but because of that she is a truely amazing person!

Me too. Unfortunately, that is unacceptable on an album. Which is also good, because we get a perfect album version, and then we listen to her play with her songs when singing them live!!

:D Hi there guys: Well i have to say this and there is nothing wrong with that though Celine uses Autotune time to time on her show i mean but when she sings somethin beyond her power like The Power Of Love she doesn´t use it at all i´ve seen her singin the song without autotune and she did it,, she sounded a bit nasal but what the heck this is Celine Dion.

I know that her producers like David Foster uses pro-tools or autotune in the studio to polishing her vocals and there is nothing wrong with that you know:

When she performed All By Myself at the grammy´s 1997 WOW hey no autotune there just her voice? INCREDIBLE If I dare say this NO ONE CAN SING LIKE AN ANGEL EXCEPT CELINE? :innocent: :whistling:

Next to Celine are:

Barbra Streisand. :thumbsup2:

Patti La belle. :thumbsup2:

Vanessa Amorosi. :thumbsup2:

Whitney Houston. :thumbsup2:

Ok guys... first of all, auto-tune is a very discussed matter nowadays, going from highly-professional tools like Pro Tools to semi-professional ones like Antares (which is used in most common studios).

Depp27, you are wrong. NOT every singer uses it. I am a singer and songwriter and I have never accepted this on my tracks - as a singer, you should know what they are doing to your voice during the mixing process and you can be there too, that's perfect. I am always beside the sound engineer when he is mixing & mastering the track and I always state fermly: no digital correction, no auto-tune.

I accept the fact that I'm not perfect - keeping it real gives my voice a sort of fragily; in fact, we are supposed to be singers, not jukeboxes!!!

Above all this, if you have worked in a studio for a long time you can "sense" when digital correction is used. Not with Pro Tools (not all the time), but you can surely tell when a person's voice has been pitched with Antares, it gives it a certain metallic, unnatural sound that producers try to minimize by using too much reverb or delay... or it gives the voice a whispered sound... see Paris' new single "Stars are blind" or Britney's "In the zone" album.

When I bought ANDHC back in 2002, Pro Tools was quite a new thing * though it had been on the market for some time, it was just starting a trend in studio equipment * and most probably Celine's producers wanted to make the best out of this album by using the latest technology. So there were rumours of voice pitching (Right in front of you), making the notes longer (Sorry for love)...

Still, Joy, I have read and heard on many occasions that Celine HAS perfect pitch ~ also, I know from experience as a studio person that one's musical ear can develop in time - it is natural. So, the longer you sing and study techmique, the better you will get - this is a common fact.

One more thing: you cannot use auto-tune in real time, they haven't figured out a way to do that yet, so you should never doubt that when Celine is singing live, she is for real!!!

She is (still) one of the best singers out there, I dissaprove her using auto-tune simply because IT IS NOT NECESSARY IN HER CASE> I don't think David Foster agrees to that either, he has worked with her on great tracks and knows how to get the best out of her without using the computer :D

Finally, you should think of auto-tune as a modern accesory to the voice... and you should make your choice, what do u prefer> perfect or human?!

Oh... and whether you like the 60's, 70's and 80's music or not, you should think of those people as great musicians because they were able to get their music through without multiple takes in recording, digital correction & all that.

There was no Pro Tools when Celine recorded "La voix du bon Dieu"... :)

Great review songbird and i totally agree with you honey i am also a singer not perfect but i am learning on my voice and i´ve never been in a studio and that is my dream to become a professional artist and Celine is my inspiritation i´ve sung some off her songs in Kareoki and people just casp? how can you sing a song by Celine they ask me i´m not as good as the original hehe but i´ve manage singin Celine´s Because You Loved Me even some off the big notes but it wasn´t perfection but not many people are able to sing a song off this caliber either.

So what am saying Celine is only human and i agree with every word you just said and to tell you this believe it or not? I have a Lyric Colouratura Soprano and my vocalrange reaches above the 6 octave. :whistling: I Am A Whistlerer haha?
