[RUMOR] German news site: Céline's Vegas extension

[Céline's Blues]

The German music site www.chart-king.de informed recently having some real insider info that Céline signed a new three-year-extension till March 2009. She supposedly got about 123 million euros for the prolongation of the contract.

 

The news was actually about Cher who will perform there from 2009 onwards and will get a custom stage for her show as well.

I have no idea what to think about it but then again Céline is smart enough not to say anything about a longer extension, she knows ppl would tear her to shreds for signing for so long - instead she chooses to prepare her fans step by step:

 

- October 2003: I'm definitely NOT extending

- Feb 2004: Well, extention? Not really!

- June 2004: Me and Reney have thought about it but nah...

- November 2004: OK, OK we are extending but only for a year!

- January 2005: MORE extension? NO WAY! I'm so EXHAUSTED!

- February 2005: Well, Reney got me this new medicament...Reney how do you call it? LSD-Light? Yes, maybe we extending.

June 2005: OK, OK PERHAPS but I can't say for sure.

December 2005: I mean PLEASE, look at the Billboard charts we'Re SO MUCH HONOURED! MAybe one more year till 2007...

- March 2006: OK, Till the of 2007 but then it's DEFINITELY finito, BASTA, CARRAMBA FINI!!!!

- July 2006: Well, did you believe I'd retire in 1999 for reall? HAHAHAHAH Ummmm....nope.

- December 2006: I mean, money, yes, money. Extension = money. So yes, we're extending.

- February 2007: I know, perhaps a lil longer anyway...cuzz of RC, he has this school an stuff ya know.. but only PERHAPS

- June 2007: OK, My three last albums flopped so Reney told me: No vegas no lipstick so I was like: What should we do what should we do?!?!?! Reney, help, help, you'Re my manager, tell tell tell meee!! Oh, extension you say? YES! We do extend.

- Sptember 2007: I know I know, one more year. Somebody has to pay for those countless flops of mine. Sony wants money now as well. So you get the picture with an "E" at the beginning and an "N" at the end. Extension baby.

Well, the FIRST part of my post isn't- They say Céline signed another 3-years-extension in 2005. And I dunno but I may believe them cuzz it all smells fishy. Céline would at once say once for all: I am ending Vegas then and then but since they have NOT given us any specific info about her new extension contract, it sounds plausible. Oh well...

No need to worry, max24! It'll be all good, I'm always positive about everything. Now I'm beginning to SERIOUSLY think about going to see her Vegas show some time in the next two years.

 

I don't know how reliable the news site is but it's for the first time we get some NUMBERS of $$$ Céline and Reney got from the deal. Supposeldy of course.

I wouldn't be suprised. We've been hearing rumors of Rene trying to convince Celine to extend the Vegas deal. Maybe he finally managed to do so.

 

I hope its not true. As much as I like the 'convenience' of having her in Vegas, I'd like her to just take her little baby break and spend a year or two writing and producing an album.

hmmmmm...interesting...I couldn't imagin her doing the show for 6 years total...she has so many things that she wants to do...I thought she was so tired and wanted to take a break...I kinda find it hard to believe...we'll just have to wait and see if it really is true.

Well I don't think so.... she wants to have another child (it would be too late if she stays till 2009), she wants to do a tour, she wants to record a jazz/acoustic album, she wants to have a holiday, etc. etc.

 

There's so much she still wants to do, excluding staying in Vegas even longer. Plus they've already bought property in Florida and they're house would be done by the time they're done in Vegas.

 

So no, I don't think she will stay there even longer, she knows herself Vegas isn't that good for her and that enough is enough. Maybe she will return for a few nights in a row every now or then, or do a show again in say..maybe 5 years, but another extension? Don't think so..

if that's true i'll give it up to hear a good quality album or lets say just a single, with a wonderful relaxed voice, decent chosen songs and a well done promo. SHE HAS TO DO A BREAK. not for us to have her back soon, only for her, for her health and for her family. someone has to quit when he's on top! maybe i'm the only one with that opinion, but she will be totally forgotten until 2009 + break afterwards!

Yes, yes, I have read the article. Yet I have big time problems in believing Rene's words. But at least they're coming from an official source.

I think this is extremely unlikely to happen. As many others have mentioned Celine has lots of projects that she wants to do. Adding three more years would make it virtually impossible to have another kid, do a movie, etc. And just like others have said about the house buying, no one in their right mind would buy a house or look for a house when they have no intention of moving or might not move.

 

Also, from what I've read it would be almost contractually impossible for Celine to add another 3 years when CP has just signed Cher as the "replacement" when Celine leaves. CP would have to shell out thousands, maybe millions, to buy out of Cher's contract. But, if both of them were to stay it would be almost impossible too. Would Cher perform half the week and then Celine the rest? Would Cher or Celine perform in the daytime and the other at night? It just isn't smart business.

 

As much as I would love for Celine to add another 3 years to Vegas, it simply isn't realistic.

 

Maybe Celine will come back now and then to perform when Cher takes time off just like Elton does when Celine goes on vacations, etc.

 

That's my two cents.

Celine is a 600,000,000-aire. She can buy as many houses as she wants and not move into them right away.

 

And CP has put it in Cher's contract that they can void their contract with her at any time if Celine wants to come back. CP loves Celine and would have no problem letting her extend.

 

Plus all this talk about albums and tours and movies are things she's been saying for the last decade and still hasn't done. So just because she said she wants to do them, doesn't mean she has any concrete plans to do them.

 

That being said, the article was writte before Rene's announcement of Dec 2007.

As good as that sounds I fear that once Celine leaves Vegas, She will never return to such a fantastic gig again.

 

Being in vegas, makes her more accessable to all than touring one night here and two nights there. Another few years off at her age puts her at 40 for a return, 42 to really get geared up again. After two kids, would she even have the desire?

They got to be that wealthy by planning their finances out, etc. Yes, they could buy a house that's worth 10 million dollars, but if they're not going to be getting any use out of that 10 million dollar investment I know they'd rather spend the 10 million on a charity donation, investing in another album, etc.

 

And as for the Cher's contract, where have you read that they have a section where they can void out Cher at any given time? I'd love to read it and see what the actual contract says.
