HI, I'm Sam, from the UK, and a massive fan of Celine.

I am interested to know how popular she is in different countries?!? Please feel free to represent yours.....

For the UK she is a quiet selling artist. Everyone knows who she is, oh yes, but she's not a huge hit with her music (nothing compared to France or USA)

And for SOUTH AFRICA she's MASSIVE! She is played all the time on the radio, in music shops their are stacks of her CD's, Just a month ago i got Unison! and everyone loves her. Unfortunatley, she is slighlty commercialised so the radio satations tend to play the same songs over and over......

CELINE FANS.....Fly South African Airways....they love her, always playing her onboard!!!

GO ON....tell me about your country, what she's like where your from......

ITALY:she sold more than 3 millions of records here,Italian people always call her"the most beautiful voice in the world"They dont play so much of her music or videos but she is a kind of queen of the music ITALIAN people prefer Celine instead Mariah or Whitney :msn-wink:

Germany

I Think Everybody Knows Celine but not everyone like her!

All of her newest Albums are in German Charts, not all so high and long but for example Live in Las Vegas goes to No.20#

Celine Dion Parfums are Huge here! :clap:

You can buy many Cd´s and DVD´s and all of her Perfumes( but not "Momento")

Songs like

MHWGO

Im Alive

ANDHC

and other Songs like IDAN or Christmas Songs

Are Played on Radio and had high chart Position in past!

Her Frensh songs are unpopular! :pinch: :confused:

Germany, 7,5 of 10 Points

I'm from Sweden. Here, Celine is a quiet popular performer. You can find a lot of information about her in libraries, buy any cds, dvd in music stores. Swedish fans like "All by myself" and "I'm alive" very much!

FRANCE: Needless to say that a lot of people know and love her. Everytime she comes here, it's a big event. We don't see her as much as in the USA, she's not ofen played on the radio. In fact, she doesn't need much promotion to sell her records or attract many people before their television.

COSTA RICA. She is big over here, people dream that she would come sometime to this small paradise , her music is a must to have here, played constantly on the radio 'HAVE YOU EVER BEEN IN LOVE' was huge here , several weeks on the top ten, ALL BY MSYSELF was a big hit, She is well known,admired. I often find articles on newspapers and magazines about her, even tho no new cd is out, people liker her better then MC and BS , she is on a league on her own , her vegas show is something EVERYBODY knows about. She is a diva here, the best singer in the world today its said on tv shows about her.

People tend to got towards Avril Lavigne, or other singers such as Kelly Clarkson or other Canadian idols, or even Shania. :pinch:

in Taiwan well many people like her and she's still quite popular too but the lack of promotion let the albums didn't sell that much, but ANDHC was the best selling album in 2002 in Taiwan!!! and ONCP got like no4 in the chart too.

here in New Zealand not as popular as before as sonybmg new zealand doesn't really promote celine... so many don't know what she's up to or something, and some even thought that Rene's already passed away because of the cancer (in 1999) ....... her last single released here was I Drove All Night.....

although they did promote Miracle in book shops but the album only got up to #26 in the chart...

Poland: She has sold slightly above 1 million records here and is by that one of the best selling foreign artist ever. She is both: loved and hated here, there are many fans and as many haters, but that after all is normal for each and every houshold name and such an international star. Her biggest hit here to date is "Falling Into You" which is actually tied with "My Heart Will Go On". Almost everybody knows these both songs in Poland. Also Céline is THE radio artist here, and she gets massive radio play from all the major radio stations, needless to say "Tous Les Secrets" was an instant radio hit in the biggest national radio station RMF FM. To be honest they will play any song Céline would release, literally even if it was her barking 3 min long they would still play it and it would get to the top of POPlista (a daily popularity chart). Of course her album sales are steadily decreasing due to the overall public desinterest in buying commercial CD (they're expensive here) and of course lack of promotion from her side. If a Céline album goes GOLD in Poland it is a good indicator of the promotion Céline has done in Europe. If she is promoting in Europe you will see an impact in Poland. LOL!

I still believe if she would at last come to Poland she'd be treated like the Pope & the Holy Spirit together. Everyone would be at her feet. She just needs to come and see it for herself how enthusiastically people would react. Sony Poland is stupid not to have asked Rene more vehemently about her visit in 2002. Her sales would at least quadruple upon her visit.

Hi, I´m Brazilian and she is really loved here, she is not that popular to be played on radios ( at least in my city ) but everyone knows who she is, for sure, she is a great singer, everybody knows that in any part of this planet ! :w00t:

Portugal:I'm portuguese,so my english is not very good...Since "A new day has come" Celine isn't so accepted like a years ago...because of the promotion of Sony Music,which is weak,poor,they irritate me! :angry2:

...The worst was the album "On ne change pas", it take long time to came out!But as I said, before "ANDHC",she sold very much and was in all hearts,well,almost.Neverthless,the portuguese fans are very loyal and are always trying to buy things in other countrys.I just LOVE her, and always will! mmm...I need to change something about Taiwan.

ONCP didn't go to the chart in Taiwan (G-music or 5 Music).

Celine's French songs are not very popular here.

But her English album always goes to No1 (since Falling Into You)

FIY even sells 700,000 copies more higher than local artists.

ANDHC sells 150,000 copies in 2002.

Celine does't come here for promotion.

I hope we can meet her in Taiwan. :bye1:

Brazil: She has 3 albuns on the TOP 10 of the most selling albuns of a international female singer: LTAL #1 (more than 1.5 milion copies), ATW #4 and FIY #8.

Eveybody knows who she is, but NOW she is not so popular here. I have to say that here, she is an ELITE's artist. She is loved by brazilian celebreties and people who has money, but not that much by the ordinary people. Including her greatest hits, ANDHC was a big, big, big hit here but it was the last one. Anyway, people respect her a lot (of course, not the MTV).

in Malaysia, Celine's popularity was on the so-so side in the late 90's. after '99, she isn't that popular anymore. its obvious here because you dont see Celine's albums in abundance in the music store.

My mother and I went to a popular shopping centre yesterday and at the end of the day my mother said to me that that was such an hysterical day......

I said "Why?"

She said "Didin`t you notice all the people staring at you?"

I said "No. Why were they? Do I have something on my face?" :-)

She said " No, silly! Because every shop we went to they were playing Celine and you were singing along!" :innocent:

HOW EMBARRASSING!!

Anyway, that`s nothing new. She is HUGE here. Only since Falling Into You, though!!

It`s the only music that I can play full blast without the neighbours complaining :flowers:

Hi everyone!

Celine is EXTREMELY popular in North Africa : Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Egypt,...and throughout the Middle East.

In North Africa, EVERYBODY knows her, and has at least 2 of her either French or English albums. If you ask whoever on the street about Celine, they would tell you everything about her life, and could sing you any song you want to hear.

Even though Mariah and Whitney are loved too, Celine remains the queen in the hearts of North Africans. :clap:

China (Mainland): Celine maybe is the most well known foreign singer in China. She was the most popular in 1996-2000. MHWGO must be the most played foreign song in China. And you can still hear her songs especially MHWGO everywhere in China. Many TV plays, commercials... use her songs as background music. Also media press here loves her too. Press never jokes about Celine in China. They always show repect to her. She is always referred as "The Queen Diva", "Pop Diva", "Queen of Love Songs"... Many celebrities singers love her too. She's idol for many of them. Press always call her voice as "the most beautiful voice on the planet", "the voice of angel", "the voice out of this world"... :in_love: Celine and her songs are even in the English and French text books for students in China. :thumbsup2:

Although she's not as popular as before right now. But we still have all her albums officially released in China, which is rare for foreign singers. You can find her albums in any record store here. Her records are always on the most noticeable place on shelf in the western music catagery. And they always have most albums of Celine on shelf, more than any other foreign singer.

The other western singers can only dream of the popularity of Celine in China. Don't even need to mention Mariah, Whitney... Most Chinese don't know them at all. They may ask Mariah who? Whit..ney what? Although many Chinese don't like love songs as they used to be due to the damn R&B, Hip-Pop, Janaese, Korean influence. :down: But many of them still love Celine, and know her well.

Here in Belgium, it's needless to say that she is very very huge!

since D'eux (except One Heart and ANDLLV)all her albums have been number 1!

She is considering like the biggest female artist and as "the voice".

everybody knows her!
