"I think about it from time to time," she says. "He seems to think it's a lot of fun. My show is longer and harder because I wheel around in wheelchairs and all that kind of thing and he doesn't do any of that. It seems like something that people do."

 

She says she talked to Elton John about it. "He said he was having a ball." Celine said it was hard, says Midler.

 

"I saw her on that same trip, and she said it was really, really hard to keep your voice, and that made me very nervous. Because if she's saying it's hard to keep your voice -- I mean, she's someone whose main thing is the way she sounds. I'm not a songwriter, so I have to sound pretty good too."

 

She and Dion talked about "Vegas throat."

 

"Nobody really knows where it comes from. Celine thought it came from the desert. It's like a spore. Something that's kicked up when the winds come in. So that's something to think about. You don't want to be so sick and so stressed that you can't do your job."

I understand she don't really want to talk about, maybe for not to scare the people who attend to the show but I want to read things like this, what problems she have.

I'm reading the book and I wish the Vegas thing passed so quickly, I know she enjoy too but don't like when she suffer things like that. Thanks for the article.

Let me just say that Bette is one classy woman that definitely deserves to be put in one line with Céline. Glad they talked with each other and hope they make some kind of collaboration in the future. Bette is actually the one she should be duetting, not Barbara.

 

Oh and about Vegas throat - guys, don't worry, truly. It's a thing that plagued ppl before WWII. Now there are times when humidifiers, doctors and all the other professionals watch over Céline's precious intrument.

That's interesting. Thanks for posting. I wondered too how Celine is making it through so many shows for this long. This might sound like a terrible thing to say but does anyone think she has lip-synched just because her throat was sore or she didn't think she would do her best? I know she would hate to cancel shows when people had traveled, sometimes very far, to see her. I don't think I would be upset if she lip-synched sometimes because she is not a machine. What do you think?

Vegas is terrible because of it's so dry.

Especially for me, because I live in the middle of the ocean with the humidity never under 80%, Vegas was a nightmare for me. My lips were so dry it was bleeding all the time. My skin was a mess. And it was only 5 days...

Just imagine Celine living there for so many years...

I also had a hard time when I was there! I'm from a climate where we have 100% humidity almost all year 'round (LOL!). I had to moisturize my skin like crazy and had a bloody nose the entire time I was there. Even Céline has to get out from under the humidifiers that she has at the Palace and at home... so I can only imagine how difficult it would be to maintain her voice!

there is no doubt the vegas throat is effecting celine big time...she sounds horrible on the few songs she sings live in vegas and she has to sing the hard ones in playback . i hope it wont hurt her voice for the long term - i hate this vegas deal

I bet she loves going home to Montreal just so she can relax and not worry about her voice being affected by the weather every day!!

Voice is a fragile instrument and can be effected by EVERYTHING.

If she goes to Montreal - there's cold, if in Vegas - there's dry air, if in the airplane - dry air less oxygen, if in Europe - there's jumping weather and wind... and countlessly more.

And it just takes the right treatment of her voice and right care which I believe she has. By the wasy do you remember Larry King was asking her about "vegas throat". She said she doesn't know what it is...

 

Midler. Well I catch myself on mind trying to imagine the way they were talking together. And I think they both belong to the same league now. Celine is the same solid star-singer as wonderful and talented Bett. I mean no one is higher or lower because of the age for example or because somene started career earlier. They are on the same line. And I bet Celine wasn't shy with her

Vegas is terrible for my lips, i have to protect them with lipbalm all the time, my hair is straight there instead of curly. My skin, i use a babylotion there. And then my nose, it's bleeding all the time. So yes... living in a the Vegas area is terrible. You also have to drink water all the time, otherwise your throat is sooooo dry!!! I can imagine Celine is having a hard time to keep in shape!

Wow, that's a cool coincidence. My hair was straight too. And I had a very bad noosebleed in the middle of the street.

My hair got even more straight in Vegas hehehe It's nice because there i don't need to dry it with hairdryer lol I can do that very fast and it looks right I went to the salon lol it's cool.

Well first of all can I say how much I hate all you Vegas people who can go to AND whenever you fancy- I don't like you at all...it's unfair.

 

Secondly- Celine sounds amazing at the moment and we hear her holding back in Vegas simply because if she were to belt out TPOL, MHWGO, IS and TLYM live 200 shows a year, she'd sound like Macy Gray. And no disrespect to Macy but I do't think IBIY or IDAN would suit that kind of 'tone'.

 

Celine's not dumb- she has the best equipment and medical attention. She's pampered and attended to like we could never imagine.One more year to go and we'll have her back with all her renowned power and might. YEEHA!

For a singer especially, the dry Las Vegas air is not the ideal environment. But that's why, as I'm sure many of you have read, the stage at her show is humidified to the ideal conditions. Of course, when she's not performing and off stage she has to deal with the dryness again. But Celine spent alot of her life and singing career in the cold Quebec winters which was just as bad. Indoor heating for long periods of time creates very dry environments. I know from years of living in cold places in the past. It's tough being a singer since your instrument is your own voice. I'm sure she does the best she can. When I saw her a few times in Vegas I don't think she lipsynchs at all, and I was fairly close to the stage. I could be wrong but I would not blame her for doing it once in awhile. I'm amazed she is able to sing so many nights a year since she's started the Vegas contract. I'm sure she will be glad to either finish it or take a long extended break after 2007.
