Vito Luprano, qui a fait signer à Céline Dion son premier contrat avec CBS, devenue depuis Sony, puis Sony/BMG, a été licencié par la compagnie de disques il y a deux semaines.

Dated Feb 8, 2008 : Vito Luprano has stepped down as senior VP, A & R (Quebec), Sony BMG Entertainment Canada. He joined Sony in 1980 and worked with Celine Dion, Garou and Mario Pelchat.

Wow. As much as I did not like the musical direction Luprano had celine on for years, it sounds like he was one of the major supporters of her career. With him gone and "no other significant contacts", it's BYE BYE Celine (especially if she continues to have poor sales). Celine leaving Sony might become a reality. Imagine if you will the headline: Sony fires Celine Dion! Now that would be funny. far as I'm concerned, she should get rid of them first. Other thing we find out is that she will probably be recording again within a year and a half. Wonder how many more she needs to do to fulfill the current contract?

FINALLY!! That man (and all her team) ruined all her albums since 2002! He didn't do anything for them to be great hits except the first months of ANDHC.

Let's just wait a second before crucifying Vito Luprano for "ruining Celine's career" and for her poor sales of late. If, as the article above implies, Vito was responsible for filtering out songs for Celine's albums then how on earth can he be faulted? All of Celine's albums since her return in 2002 have had strong material. Sure some of it may not be to your liking but all have had single worthy songs and potential hits. We've all screamed out for the I Surrender's, Reveal's and Ain't Gonna Look The Other Way's of the world to be released as singles - all potential hits chosen by Vito!

 

The problem is Celine's MARKETING AND PROMOTION team!!! If Celine's got her own team of staff working solely for her at Sony then Rene seriously needs to look at the problem there. If the problem is Sony as a whole, who seem intent on not supporting Celine's material besides one lead off single, then the problem is much bigger than imagined and Rene should seriously look at quitting Sony for a record company interested in promoting their artists.

 

If Vito is responisble for single choices, poor promotion, not sending songs to radio, Celine not being mentioned on Sony Music websites around the world as one of their artists then I agree it's best for everyone that he's moved on. But one suspects there's more to this than meets the eye.

I totally agree!!! All of the albums after 2002 (and mind you, the ones before too!! ) would have been totally different received with other singles, better videos and more promotion! I think René will truely rethink their deal with sony!!!

 

Oh and Robin... a year and a half could be right... cos in about that time the tour will be done and a live cd can be released!
