If she is taking chances, so really go for it! She's always talking that "it's edgy, it's egdy..." so let people listen that! It's time to FADE AWAY or the amazing This Time.

'I Got Nothin' Left' is the best choice for being a single in U.S.,because:

1.I think it will fit American's bad taste nowadays

2.It's was written by ne-yo.

trust me :thumbsup2:

Be sure we should choose the song which would be hot on charts but not which we love personally

2nd single - Fade Away (rockin' Celine!!)

3rd single has to be a ballad (and a RNB one) - Got Nothin' Left (simply amazing!!!)

She needs a strong song to get some attention and therefor I voted for THIS TIME. After that Fade away/shadow of love or Thats just the woman in me would be good.

First of all, thanks Chuck for giving us this opportunity! :flowers:

I think 'Fade Away' and 'Shadow Of Love' could become big international hits but I'm not sure about the US.

I also think that peoble are underestimating one of the greatest songs on the album: 'I Got Nothin' Left'. With a good radio version, it could become a hit in the US!

I haven't played my album too many people, but the two people who I have played the songs to, immediately loved I GOT NOTHING LEFT :thumbsup2:

Yes, I Got Nothin' Left is a great song!

It would be great to have a radio version featuring Ne-Yo! :w00t: Can you imagine?! ...

Celine Dion featuring Ne-Yo I Got Nothin' Left

I love I Got Nothing left, but as a single??? It's a ballad!

Lately I don't think Sony have been choosing the correct releases for Celine... but in a Nutshell "A World To Believe In" or "Surprise Surprise"... I don't think she should release Alone!

i really dont think 'fa' would be a good single for europe...well the uk atleast...

'sol' and 'tt' would do very well here i think, maybe even 'eom' if it was remixed!!

It is so hard I love the whole album but we have to try and think which tracks would make the biggest impact in general and I have to agree with Xpresso.....I absolutely adore Got Nothin Left and would love it to be single number two BUT I think Fade Away would make the best single number two with Got Nothin Left to follow showing yet another side of Celine's continuing growth.

This Time would only perform well at AC radio and in no way would be a hit on pop.

I didn't read that either. Why only US, why not telling them about the world, what the world wants.

hello my friends... fascinating... i am reading every word written here. i'd like to give this post another week or so and see if we can really gather critical mass. hopefully with so much going on with celine appearances and news, every regular member of the forum is checking in on a frequent basis and will add their vote.

so here's a tidbit of news... in first quarter 2008, sony will be re-releasing "a new day has come" with DVD footage. it's a combination of the CD (remastered) and much of the EP/DVD single that was released in the states in may 2002 after the album came out in march. will include video clips for a new day has come, have you ever been in love and i'm alive... sadly, will NOT include her third CBS special (as the re-issue of "these are special times" had her first CBS special).

cheers!

Exactly at least if Chuck has a chance to speak to Sony he could put in word. If only a single was released she could have had a big hit in the UK...so we need a really cool single Like..Fade Away :D

WOW excellent I hope we get it in the UK, we never got the DVD release. Thanks Chuck :w00t:

Well it is great to see that a respected music critic is interested in celine considering that she doesn't get what she deserves from the critics!

As for the single choice, there are a few in fact:

- My love is an amazing song that moves smoothly and is so easy listening that it can be an AC hit

- Shadow of love is more European style and i can imagine myself in a cabrio with that song on!

- This time will not bring a new audience to celine since the song is more oriented to the adults (abuse after a LONG relationship) but still is a gem

- A world to believe in: typical Let's talk about love track ie typical Celine

- Fade Away: Did you say Kelly Clarkson with a better voice? Yes it is a better voice, but it is Celine's! This song is amazing

surprise surprise is a little bit too dull (due to its length) and that's just the woman in me is amazing, but if it were to be a single, then celine should perform it live a few time, and i don't want that, because it is harmful to her voice!

i hope that was helpful...

It totally looks like Fade Away is a clear winner

If Fade Away did really well and was followed with This Time then I Got Nothing Left it could be amazing!!!

I have to say that Surprise Surprise is probably my favourite track on the album but I dont think it would work as a single. The length of the song is what makes it so fantastic and if it were to be a single it would be cut short and would ruin the song I think.

I never even knew the song the orchestra was playing........

I also agree with Kyle to say that she needs to release more singles to support her albums.

My strategy for this album would be :

- 2nd single : Fade Away

- 3rd single : 1 - For International release a double A-side with "Eyes On Me" (reworked by Timbaland or sthg) and "I Got

------------------- Nothing Left"

--------------- 2 - For Europe One of these songs 'EOM' or 'IGNL' and 'Shadow Of Love'.

- 4th Single : A new Song (with RNB style) to promote a new version of the album "Taking Chances" with at least 6 new

--------------- songs and a dvd.

- 5th Single : "Surprise Surprise" or "My Love" or "Can't Fight the Feelin'"

With this strategy I think that the would be a huge success.

"Eyes On Me" with reworked by Timbaland is a great ideia :flowers:

Yeah Yeah... Keep On Dreamin' Dreamers! -_-

DESERVES A REALLY GOOD MUSIC VIDEO..

AND SPECIAL VERSIONS TO DJS

but FADE AWAY

she could invite some huge rock bands to appear with her!!!

I WANT HER AS A ROCKER ON THE COVER OF ROLLINGSTONE MAGAZINE!!

to show this rock side of her, every real rocker diserves that..!!! :w00t:

Well it's almost impossible to predict what those musically-challenged PDs and MDs will add to their playlist on US radio, but if I were one of them I'd pick either Surprise Surprise or Fade Away (although I'm not in love with the latter). Eyes On Me is too gimmicky for my taste and This Time is too repetitive IMO. I agree with whoever said that "Taking Chances" was not good choice for a leadoff single. The beginning of the song is way too ballady and by the time we reach 2nd gear it's too late. -_-

Can you ask Mr. Doelp how he managed to keep his job after "Goodbye's The Saddest Word" was chosen as a single? :giggle:

I think Taking Chances is a great album, but to be honest, it's a difficult album to pick singles from.

I still think the title track was an excellent choice as a lead single. The only problem was her Vegas commitment. It was released early enough but, predictably, it didn't really take off until she started doing promotion. That was too late, as we're now into the holiday season. I'm still hoping that continuing Top 40 adds will outweigh the decreased play on AC (since every non-holiday song loses play there), but I'm not exactly holding my breath. It might have just missed the top 10, but it did make an impact: lots of people heard it, and more will, and it's changed people's perceptions about what Celine can do.

I think that, of all the tracks on the album, "Eyes on Me" has the most immediate appeal. And it's got great remix potential. Unfortunately, I don't think it's the right choice for a second single. It's not at all representative of the rest of the album, which is more rock oriented, and like many, I just can't see how it will work for Celine in video and performance. It screams out for swirling hips, flailing extensions, and serious dancing. And, from everything we've seen so far, I can't believe Celine would go there. Her dancing has always been whatever comes naturally, but a song like this demands some serious sweat with a choreographer. Worse yet, even if she did it, and even if it was fabulous, she's still be criticized for it. People would say she's just trying to copy what's hot and be something she's not.

The next most appealing song, I think, is "Surprise Surprise." The chorus is so great; it stays stuck in my head for hours. The problem with it is that it's not all that different. If you're aiming for AC, I think this is a no-brainer. I like it enough to wonder if it could even cross over and have success on Top 40. Maybe this would be more likely if it were the third or fourth single, following another Top 40 hit. ;-)

So, what is that second single that could be a hit on Top 40? Probably "Fade Away." It's not my absolute favourite on the album, but it definitely has appeal. I know people are comparing it to some of Kelly Clarkson's songs, but unfortunately it's no "Since U Been Gone." Lyrically, it just doesn't have that same edge. It's a great tune, though, and Celine's delivery is superb. And I think she could really do a great job of it live, which would surprise and impress people. Rock definitely comes naturally to Celine. I say give it a go, and then try something a bit safer like "Surprise Surprise."

For a ballad, and yes, one should be released at some point, I'd definitely go for something a little more R&B: "I Got Nothin' Left" or possibly "Skies of LA." They're both very engaging, and relatively understated, which is a nice change. Definitely not "My Love," "New Dawn," or "This Song," which are, in my opinion, the weakest lyrically and also over-sung.

"This Time" is one of the most interesting and powerful songs that Celine has recorded, certainly in English, but I just don't think it's single material. I don't understand at all how people can say that "Taking Chances" was the wrong choice for a single because it doesn't grab people, and then suggest "This Time." It also starts slow, and musically there's not nearly as much there. You really have to listen to the lyrics to get anything from it, and people often don't bother doing that with what's on the radio.

Chuck, let me echo the sentiments that many other people have expressed here: thanks for all of your great coverage of Celine over the years. And thank you so much for stopping to listen to our opinions. It's wonderful to be heard!

And, of *course* we want to hear your behind-the-scenes story!

Well in a previous post I said FADE AWAY should be the next single...here is why:

I think many people can relate to the lyrics (I know I can) because believe it or not...Once touched by pain you're not the same...but time can heal your heart again!

Besides, it has a nice beat to it...C'mon I'm a young Celine fan and I love this song!!!!!!!!

Hi Mr. Taylor,

Thank you so much for this opportunity! Your support is greatly appreciated!

For AC radio ... "A World To Believe In" would do great considering the war and all the political hoop-la that plagues America/world today. It would be a good-feel song coming at a good-feel time of year. No doubt. Great melodic chorus that sticks in the head. This was the one song that stuck in my head when we saw the recording sessions awhile back. Some may say it's not the "taking chances"-Celine, but it's got enough of an edge (with those fierce guitar chords) to stand apart from previous AC staples such as "My Heart Will Go On" and "A New Day Has Come."

For Pop/Top 40 radio ... "Can't Fight The Feeling" ... we all know Celine likes this one and she likes to rock it out. Sony BMG should definitely let the gal have fun with her single choices. She's more than proven herself as a valuable asset to the record company -- a few risks here and there can't hurt. "Feeling" is a very catchy song that will catch new listeners off guard -- it doesn't sound like Celine and that's the beauty of it. Again, it's an easy, feel-good song to sing along to ... and isn't that what a hit song is all about? One of the problems with "Taking Chances" (and probably why it's stalling) is due to the difficulty in singing it.

I noticed a lot of fans have voted for "Fade Away." It's another great song by Mr. Aldo Nova indeed, but it's too much like Kelly Clarkson and not as memorable as Mr. Nova's "Feeling" composition. Again, not an easy song to sing along to as is "A World To Believe In" or "Can't Fight The Feeling."

Thanks, Mr. Taylor, for your time and consideration. I hope this finds you and the Sony BMG executives well. Take care!

p.s. Mr. Taylor: What are your thoughts about the 2nd single for AC and/or Pop/Top 40?

I do like this topic, thank you all you do

Fade Away is absolutely a good choice

but I wanna say something of "this time",I think we should give this time a chance, coz it's so special and helpful,Celine needs such a song to tell all that she is the big star who take the social responsbility.Because she is such a person,so maybe Sony can make this song as a special version and non-commercial,that would be great!!!

S'il suffisait d'aimer...

"Fade Away" is Celine's most decent chance for a commercial hit a cause, a cause, a cause:

1. It has a strong recall factor. The music is contagious and its progression is nifty.

2. It has a contemporary feel without patronage of tawdry or juvenile gimmicks.

3. Celine's voice is in top form. It's consistently strong and clear, and towards the end, it absolutely brings the house down. Kelly Clarkson who???

4. It has ample crossover appeal unlike something like "This Time" which sounds serious and spooky at the same time.

5. The lyrics may be cliched to a certain extent but they're raw and honest enough to resonate with any listener. I mean, how many people out there have never struggled with heartbreak?

6. The song transcends age and gender divides.

7. It warms the heart without being too sugary or dramatic.

"I Got Nothin' Left" with Ne-Yo also qualifies as a good choice but it should have a radio edit that leaves out Celine's final wail which is quite too much. It's a ballad but have you heard Alicia's latest single? :P

I just thought of something. Why doesn't Sony release A World to Believe In just for the holidays (one month only)? Not my favorite but it could fit the holiday period and get some airplay on AC...

The song says "There's always a light that shines through, And takes me back home, take me back home"...

(They could even add a few bells and whistles to it!! :giggle: )

Might sound funny but it would let people hear something else from the album.

But Sony would need to release a new rocky song at the beginning of January: FADE AWAY!!!

isn´t it too late for xmas music to be released? it won't even be for a month lo, it will be roughly 3 weeks...

I voted multiple, sorry there are more than one song that would be good singles... eyes on me and fade away come to mind, "surprise" and "right next" would be ok too, but not for 2nd single tough. thank you for asking Mr Chuck!
