DVDs in the US are like region 1 or something and will only play on US dvd players and DVD's in france are like region 2 or something like that and will only play in France dvd players....its something along those lines...so they only way you can play it is by getting a dvd player that has the same region codes as the dvd......its sad i know........ Pal is a coding system for TV, most countries in europe use it whereas canada and the U.S use the NTSC system.A dvd in europe is classified zone 2 whereas the us and canada are zone 1. There are I think 8 different zones worldwide. The big companies had the zones set to try to control the diffusion of the dvd's according to the regions, for exemple, usually, by the time an american movie will be dubbed in french for theaters, the DVD in the US is already out! so to be able to control the copies and selling without a too huge impact on the theaters in France they put zones to limit copies.But many dvd players now are zone free so you can play any dvd from any regions on them!
