is anyone familiar with dsl speeds?

I'm thinking about getting dsl, the speed I will have is 768k/128k, under verizon dsl. I was just wondering how long a download of 70-100mb would take on speed like that. I know, not as good as cable. I would be happy if it cut an hour or two off of a 5 or 6 hour download (dialup) and 10-13 off an mp3, because it takes me on dialup like 20mins sometimes :cry:  :P

it should be about 12-14 times faster than a 56kbps modem.

anything faster than dialup will do, lol. thanks. I'm paying $15 for my dialup now, so I figured I should switch to that instead  :) .

Ya, that new Verizon package for $15 is great, sure beats dialup for just a little more. 56k modems can download at around 5kbyte/s whereas the 768kbit DSL will go at around 94kbytes/s. 100Mb file will take approximately 18 minutes to download. :geek:

18 mins, for real  :shocking: ? It takes me about 3 hours for about 30 or 40mb. for 70mb it was like 5. The 100, I don't even want to know  :laughing: I guess that means with dsl I will need a bigger hard drive  :laughing: I only have an 80gb right now, in the market for 200  :) .

what speed do you have? I know verizon also has also 3mb one, maybe you have that? just a guess ;)

lol @ addictable. The reason I may need the bigger hard drive before I actually get the dsl. I'll get one and name it Celine  :laughing:
