PRESS RELEASE:

Re-live the romantic story of the couple that conquered the world. The lives of Céline Dion and René Angélil changed forever at the moment when the young singer from Charlemagne (Quebec) went to René's office in January of 1981. That was the beginning of a journey that made history.

She, guided by the ambition of becoming the world's greatest singer. Him, of a more relaxed nature, wished to conquer the planet. Guided by the same passion, they quickly conquered the highest points of show business, succeeding in charts and achieving glory and richness. At the heart of this spectacular success there was a couple that loved each other immensely, a love stronger than anything else.

This book tells Céilne and René's love story in a way that no other book has done before. The beginning, their joys, their fear of sharing too much with the public, their mutual respect, their wish of having children. And, above all, how these soul mates have managed to keep humble, even when they had the world at their feet.

I wonder if this author talked to anyone? Sounds like it could be pieced together by all the years of them being an "open book." Maybe this author is just trying to make a quick buck on his death.

This really smells of someone trying to cash in on Celine's heartbreak right now.  Too soon. Feels crass.  And yeah, it's probably just a collection of rehashed press clippings  Ugh.

The description of the book seems a little weird to me.Right from the start,it says:"Un récit romancé which means "A fictionalized account".
The best book I've ever read on Celine is L'énigmatique Céline Dion...enfin dévoilée (finally revealed) by Denise Bombardier. If you do a quick search on her, you'll realize that Bombardier is not just anybody.

Oh Lord...fictionalization?  So it's a "The Aviator's Wife"  or "The Paris Wife" type of deal?

You're right. It is to soon for it to be a complete new book. Must be a collection of clippings over the years. Is someone allowed to do that though, without any approval?
And publish it?

Did you really like it a lot? I read it (what I could understand with my so-so French) and was a bit disappointed - I'd expected more from her.   There wasn't much new information or insight. A lot of it was from the A Coeur Ouvert interview, and a lot of times I felt like she was trying too hard to make things fit into her thesis, focusing too much on the serious/dark side of things. She did a fair amount of speculating . .things like "Must've been weird for Celine to become a stepmother to people about the same age as her."  Aaaand. . that was it. No new stories or insights about  the issue, just that it must have been hard.  (I'm glad, actually, that Celine keeps stuff like that private - it's no one else's business - but why even bring it up if you're not going to do anything with it?)

And I don't think Celine is enigmatic at all.  More complex and less of an open book than she initially appears? Absolutely. Enigmatic? Not really.  I was also disappointed by how short the book was. Huge margins with tons of white space on every page; not very long.  More novella-length than book length.

But there were a number of interesting anecdotes based on her personal experience being part of the tour, and I thought those were the best part. I recall her saying that the members of Celine's entourage use how close they are to Celine as a status kind of thing (Like "I spoke to Celine this morning." to kind of show how special they were). That kind of thing was interesting.

The thing is, I never thought celine became a 'stepmother'. She already had a good relationship with René's kids. And they have their mums anyway. Maybe a bit more of a role model etc for them as she's gotten older. But in the 90's I don't think so. But that's just what I think - I'm not in the know lol

Yeah I wonder if they ever thought of their relationships in that way. I always thought of it as she was an older sister.
I mean, can you see Celine disciplining Patrick for not picking up something or not eating his peas :sofunny:

Well, Patrick has spoken about this in the past and he is about 3 months older then Celine and he said that they never had a stepmother and stepson kind of relationship. It's more of a sister brother kind of relationship or close friendship. I think when it comes to Anne Marie, there relationship is a tiny bit different.

Celine even mentioned it in the song she wrote at Anne Marie's wedding by saying in her song lyrics that she didn't know what she should be to Anne Marie. A sister, mother, more then just her friend. Anne Marie is kind of like the daughter Celine never had.

Of course Celine never acted as her mother because she is only about 10 years older then Anne Marie, but I think they have a very special relationship and a close bond.

I guess when you think about it, Anne Marie was only 2 years old when Celine came into her life. By the time Anne Marie was 10, Celine was 20 so I guess it would feel like a more motherly feeling. Not that 10 years is a huge difference, but in a way it kind of is. When Anne Marie was still a little girl, Celine was a young adult.

I think it depends on the relationship and living circumstances. I'm 24, I have two step-children, 14 and 16, and they both call me their step mum, but I have looked after them full time, for the past 2 years, and given them what they needed.

It's difficult, because technically, your the adult in the situation, but it is the child who has control of what the relationship is, and that is tricky. All I could offer them was friendship, that only changed when they decided they would prefer to live with us full time, about two years in.

One of the hardest things is not stepping on anybody else's toes, and it seems, the Angelil clan have always remained quite a united, be it unconventional, family. So I guess they found that balance, and that takes time, effort and commitment. They all seem comfortable, and supportive of one another, and they don't really talk about it, which tells me, they are probably content with their relationships together.

I agree. It all depends on what the children want and the living arrangements and circumstances of everything. I remember reading that Celine tried to be there as much as she could for Anne Marie, Patrick and Jean Pierre whenever they needed her.

Celine also said it was hard because she didn't want to step on anyone's toes since she isn't technically the mother. There was there real mother and the other kids to consider and all the kids had there own feelings about the situation at the time.

I guess that is why Celine said she didn't know what she should be, a sister, a mother or friend. I think they chose not to put a label on it and just decided to let it be whatever it was going to be. Whatever they are doing it seems to work for them. It's so touching to see how close they are. I'm sure that bond has become even closer since Rene's passing.

It's also nice to know that even though Celine never got to have a baby girl, atleast in a way she got to experience having a girl by watching Anne Marie grow up and being there for her over the years whenever she needed her.
