Guylaine Tanguay is a country artist from Quebec. Her new album, Céline à ma façon, was released today. It’s a Celine covers album.

Would have been so awesome if Celine re-recorded 15-20 of her 80’ songs with her actual voice. Imagine this in a box set with her pre incognito albums on cds to celebrate her 40th career anniversary..

Would have been a tribute to Eddy Marnay too!

Yeah, she's doing a launch event hosted by Claudette (see here, from a few days ago in the Random thread). I believe she was involved in several Fondation Maman Dion events over the years and is a friend of the family, and has been singing Celine covers (at Montreal Casino and the like) for years.

And there's of course the other tribute album coming out later this week - Ranee Lee's Because You Loved Me (posted about it some other treads but I imagine it'll get more press in the coming days, since release is this coming Fri. And she's also doing that show at the Montreal Jazz Fest this summer.)

Is Guylaine Tanguay related to Celine? I've always thought that she's Celine's cousin, because Tanguay was Celine's Mother's last name. That would explain the reason for the dedication album maybe if that's the case anyways.

Nice praise from Ranee, who is a pretty legendary vocalist herself, a prof at McGill University and Universite Laval music schools, and, like Celine, a Companion of the Order of Canada.

I must say that I was quite pleasantly surprised by this album! I didn't expect this country sound to these (old) songs! Especially the old French songs get a whole new vibe because of it. It is kind of a shame she included TPOL and MHWGO on this album, because to me they clash with the French songs. She would have been better off doing 2 other songs, like ONCP and EJTAE. And then record an album with English covers.

I doubt Céline hears this, but I wish she did and make her think: I should really re-invent my old songs!

I wonder how aware she is in general of stuff like this. There have been so many tributes to her over the years. Songs about her, albums and shows in tribute to her, a bunch of Broadway peeps created a Celine-centered musical, Valerie made a whole damn $25mln movie!
On the one hand I wish she'd engage more and acknowledge projects in her honor, on the other I understand why she doesn't.
