When I saw him , I thought, wow he really does look a lot like Rene, this could really be good. I just hope they get all the facts and stories right.

Another biopic. This time backed by Celine and written by her nephew (and wedding ring-bearer) Jimmy!

The story of Jimmy has been sad, because the young man has been a accident of ski at the age of 17 in 2004 and has been since in wheelchair. Today Jimmy has been 30 years old.

If they will do this... Do they need to sing or just lipped céline's vocals?

So I finally got around to reading the various La Presse articles from that special they published a week or so ago, and judging by one of the articles (http://www.lapresse....ndre-lavoie.php), it seems this project is more advanced than I expected.
It seems the filmmakers have been spending lots of time with the family - including with Celine:
"Marc-André Lavoie a été accueilli à bras ouverts par le clan Dion et dit se sentir un peu comme «le 15e enfant de la famille». «Je me sens comme à la maison avec cette famille-là. Quand je m'en vais à Charlemagne pour voir Claudette ou maman Dion, je me sens chez moi», confie-t-il." [...]
"«Maman Dion m'a dit: "Fais-le avant que je parte." La rencontre avec Céline au Québec devait durer 20 minutes. Ça a duré presque sept heures! Même Jacques m'a dit qu'il n'avait pas vu sa soeur aussi longtemps depuis son départ de la maison! Ç'a été une séance de création inoubliable.»"
"«Grâce à Jimmy, quand on a des questions, on passe directement par Céline. Elle vient au printemps et elle a le goût de travailler un peu avec nous», ajoute Marc-André Lavoie."
Hmmmm

Sounds like it's not financed yet - and that in itself can take years - but something tells me there'll be no shortage of takers here!

So, for those in the know, how do we feel about this? What kind of work does Valerie Lemercier do?
Does this have potential to be good, or are they going to make it a farce?

Surely many fans would have gone to the first casting last week - I'm surprised we haven't heard anything about it.

French release expected in Dec 2020.
Celine has authorized.
(...I think Deadline meant to say it'll be mainly in French, not English...)

This means a new "best of" compilation/soundtrack à la "Bohemian Rhapsody" to be released at the end of 2020.

Is this the biggest budget biopic she has? There was a tv movie right?
I hope it's good and that the actress portrays Celine well.

Oh, that was an el-cheapo, made-for-TV, Hallmark-movie-of-the-week type thing.
This is on an entirely different, theatrical scale.

Just me being a fan and imagining people to play the characters also Will the film be in french or English i wonder if they will have any big name actors to star in the film if they did what Hollywood actress could you see play Celine and actor play rene. I could see Sara Jessica Parker, jodie foster, cameron diaz jane seymour Play a now aged 40-50 Celine . and mabye a 20-30 Celine could be kiera knightly she looks like she could be a young celine. I could definitely see betty white or Rosemary Harrisplay play an older Therese i always thought they looked alike. And Rene hmm a younger Rene 40-50 mabye liam neeson i would love collin firth he can speak french or mabye someone like the titanic star Leonardo DiCaprio. and a 60-70s rene i could see robert duvall , anthony hopkins, billy crystal dustin hoffman, jack nickelson,

Helen Hunt would be a fabulous Celine. She and Celine have always looked alike -- and they have aged similarly too. Helen could pull off Celine's accent and this could be Helen's big comeback after taking a semi-hiatus from acting. (Her last Academy Award nomination was in 2013 for The Sessions) -- and lets us not forget that Helen WON the Academy Award for Best Actress for As Good As It Gets the same year Titanic was sweeping the awards -- she beat out Kate Winslet!
However, Cate Blanchett would also be a fabulous choice to play Celine.
I think the trick to nailing Celine as a character is to try to present yourself as though you're humble and grounded and just an every day woman with everyday values --- but that's just a coping mechanism you've had to develop due to the fact that you're one of the greatest vocalists of all time!! Being so talented is a tremendous burden and we see what it did to Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Karen Carpenter, etc.
Celine's story is truly fascinating and deserves to be told in the right way. She is such an interesting woman with a lot of quirks. Not only does she have an UNTOUCHABLE gift --- she is a role model who has demonstrated incredible strength decade after decade after decade. She truly believes that LOVE can conquer all. That's why she includes LOVE CAN MOVE MOUNTAINS in all of her shows. I think this belief that love can conquer all is what has given her so much strength throughout her life.

Celine has already been cast, the director of the movie is also acting as Celine.
Those choices for Rene aren't very good imo. I think they'll cast mostly French actors.
