LOS ANGELES — Celine Dion will honour the victims of the attacks in Paris at Sunday's American Music Awards.

ABC and dick clark productions say that Dion will perform a rendition of Edith Piaf's "Hymne à L'Amour" in French at the ceremony to pay tribute to those affected by last week's attacks.

American Music Awards producer Larry Klein says the ceremony's producers wanted to show solidarity.

"Hymne à L'Amour" was written by Piaf as a tribute to lover Marcel Cerdan. He died in a plane crash in 1949.

Jennifer Lopez is set to host and perform at Sunday's fan-favourite ceremony at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. Other performers include Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, Gwen Stefani, Coldplay, One Direction and Carrie Underwood.

The awards air at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.

I hope not. It would a bit of a downer as an opening! Not celine or what she's singing, but the reason why she's doing it. It would be like the other award ceremonies when they show the montage of people who have passed away over the last year  and opening their show with it!

Of course the reason for Celine's performance is heartbreaking, but as a fan, I am glad for the opportunity for a large US audience to see Celine perform in French. I'm sure it will be an emotional and heartfelt tribute.

Wow this is great news, Aldo has her booked everywhere. This really proves that it's not that Celine is not 'wanted' anymore in the business, her management just have to make the effort.

Ok, it's a very sad occasion, but this is great exposure for Celine on primetime TV. Plus, she's exposing her French career to the US market - when was the last time she sang in French on US television?!?

Yes, as at the time that is what she wanted. He even asked her if the 10% he said yes to was too much because she had mentioned it being a lot for her at the time.


I am glad they are acknowledging the tragedy in this way. It will be a lovely tribute.

Yes, and she thought what he was saying "yes" to was still a lot (implication: a bit too much - even when he was only saying yes to 10%). I wonder how happy Celine herself is about this flurry of activity.

Though I don't think it's that much different from flurries of activity she's had at other times while promoting things. I'm happy about all this stuff too - but not sure why there's this general opinion that Aldo is creating a revolution. She's been on Access Hollywood and GMA a million times before, as well as tons of award shows, tributes, and duets. It's a bit unusual to have so much activity when she's not specifically promoting something, but other than that, its really not so different from anything Rene's done in the past.  And one thing that is different is that there's been almost no activity or connection with Quebec media or events, aside from opening night. Hopefully that will change this summer with the tour and album.

I don't think we're going to see much difference in promotion for the albums from the past. Celine has said many times that she doesn't want to go back to the type of promoting she did in the 90s. Given her constraints, I thought the LMBTL promotion was quite good. She was on many major shows and did a 3day media event when it was released. It took off in the UK; it didn't really take off wworkin the US. That happens sometimes.

I think the last time was LCDH at Oprah with her family and even that was cut off!

This is great news!  I can't actually think of anyone better to be honest.... Celine is the biggest French/English singer there is!

I think it's being done because France was attacked and Celine is the biggest and most well-known French-language artist.  I highly doubt there is a publicity motive...at least not for her.

And BTW Celine is going to sound amazing singing this!  She sang part of it in 2012 when promoting SA and she sounded flawless!

For once in a while it feels someone is in control.... That said Rene has been an amazing manager ..... I think his health has alot to do with the bad decisions in recent years!
