Alanis definitely deserves such a recognition. I totally agree. But what about Celine?  Celine is not only about sales either! Celine deserves it too! I think she brought a lot to Canadian music and always has been a good ambassador of Canada all around the world.
Why are the Juno's snubbing her?

Why Alanis still matters

Two decades on, as Alanis Morissette beats Queen Celine to the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, the legacy of ‘Jagged Little Pill’ is more alive than ever

If Céline Dion raised a perfectly plucked eyebrow when she heard the news, you could hardly blame her. The Canadian Music Hall of Fame passed Queen Céline over again this year, opting instead to induct the queen of ’90s alt rock: Alanis Morissette.
No, she hasn’t sold as many records or won as many Junos as Dion. She hasn’t released as many albums as Sloan, or as many singles as the Barenaked Ladies. Even when you count her early-’90s pop albums, she still hasn’t been recording as long as Lilith Fair founder Sarah McLachlan.
But, at Sunday’s Juno Awards in Hamilton, Ont., Morissette will make it into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame before any of them—and it’s the right decision. That’s because this year is the 20th anniversary of Morissette tearing apart an ex-boyfriend—and then the entire music industry—with one of the bestselling albums of all time: Jagged Little Pill.
Sales aren’t Morissette’s big selling point, though. If that were all the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences looked for, Dion would have been the Canadian Music Hall of Fame’s first inductee. She’s the top-selling Canadian artist in history (and, for the record, really should get in there soon).

The reason it’s important to recognize Morissette in 2015 is that, 20 years on, we can fully appreciate Jagged Little Pill’s legacy. Its wildly successful blend of Riot Grrrl feminism and pop hooks announced to the music industry—in that distinctive husky screech—that there was a mass market for female singer-songwriters.
In the mid-1990s, that still wasn’t obvious.
“There was a quota for a very small [number] of female artists,” Morissette says in a piece she wrote looking back on that time. This meant her label, Maverick, initially had a hard time convincing radio stations to give You Oughta Know a shot.
As Morissette tells it, “Before a certain time, the response was, ‘We’re already playing two female artists. We’re playing Tori Amos and Sinead O’Connor, so we have plenty of females. We’re good.’ ”
It’s a hard attitude to wrap your mind around today, when the charts are dominated by Taylor Swift (who has been spotted with the You Learn lyrics scrawled on her arm) and Katy Perry (who says she grew up idolizing Morissette).
But Morissette is widely credited for helping to open the floodgates, ushering in a generation of mainstream female artists who sang about love very differently from Mariah Carey and Céline Dion. She paved the way for Fiona Apple, Nelly Furtado, Avril Lavigne and Pink, many of whom cite her as a direct influence.
But there was no bigger hat tip than the 2010 Grammys, when Beyoncé covered You Oughta Know as part of her performance, right down to Morissette’s signature hair thrashing.
By that time, it was clear Morissette was never going to write us another Jagged Little Pill. Her musical influences had changed, and so had her perspective on life and love. She didn’t seem to mind that her next five albums found a smaller audience, because she was still making music she loved. Today, she earnestly says things like, “I’m 40 years old, chronologically.”
In Canada, we have a long history of tiring of our own, especially if they commit the ultimate betrayal: moving to the United States. While Jagged Little Pill holds up 20 years later, we’re not nearly as smitten with Morissette herself. She’s far away in California, popping up every so often to expound the virtues of attachment parenting and urging everyone to embrace the feminine within “to serve as a direct portal to the Divine.”
By comparison, Drake’s attempt to rebrand Toronto “the 6” seems entirely reasonable.
Morissette’s return to the Juno stage on Sunday to take her rightful place in the Canadian Music Hall of Fame therefore signals one last triumph: Thanks to her, Canada agrees to put snideness aside and salute one of its biggest, and most influential, stars.

I don't think Celine would have shown up for the award anyways, because she is on her break and hasn't made any kind of appearances to do with work. Celine hasn't really made a public appearance yet.

Besides some charity event a few months back, Disneyland, a family ski trip and a recent grocery shop at Wal Mart. Very few people have even seen Celine since her break. Which was like 8 months ago. That's over half a year of basically know appearances.

Maybe The Juno Awards committee asked Celine if she wanted to be the next inductee? Celine might have turned it down because she is on a break and hasn't made any public appearances to do with work related things.

Maybe it wouldn't feel right for her to make any type of work related appearances at this time because she hasn't officially announced a comeback date yet and doesn't want to be seen and written about in the media?

I find it hard to believe that the committee of people that decide who's going to be the next inductee didn't try to contact Celine or her people to ask if she would be interested.

You wouldn't think Celine would turn an opportunity like that down, but she has admitted in the past that Rene gets calls all the time, asking him if Celine will take part in something and Celine said that Rene turns down 90% of the offers they receive.

René turns down 90% of the offers and Céline turns down 99%... :D
She will get inducted into the Canadian Hall of Fame eventually.... Aldo/René probably want to make sure she has an album to promote when that happens! :giggle:

She should accept more of these opportunities though. I'm curious of what she gets offered.

It has been a long time since celine won a juno.  It may sound stupid, but i really want celine to win one with the new design statue.  The ones she won were all before they change the design of the statue of the award.

So it's Juno weekend.
No Celine content this year (as far as we're aware anyway), but with Jann Arden and Jon Montgomery hosting, should be a solid show.

It just makes me wish Celine got to host it again at some point.  When she did, back in '93 she was really just barely speaking English and well, it was all a bit awkward. She could do an infinitely better job now!  Back then, she was all ambition and drive, but now she's got no qualms about being a goofball; I think she'd do an awesome job!

And as for the conversation above - I have no doubts she'll get her Canadian Music Hall of Fame induction. It's probably just a question of waiting for the right time.  Sad that it didn't happen while Rene was still with us though.

Watching the Junos gala livestream (where they hand out the awards that don't make it into the live broadcast, which is tomorrow night - http://junoawards.ca/juno-tv/).

Of course, Rene was part of the In Memoriam segment.

Xavier Dolan won for his Hello video for Adele.

The Weeknd is 3/3 thus far.

Some other great winners announced so far; the Junos do get it right a lot of the time.  Canada's got such an amazingly diverse music scene.  Love it.

I just saw on the live broadcast that Xavier won.  Do you know if they did the Memoriam on the live broadcast as well?  I missed part of it this evening.m

Perhaps educate yourself first and stay away from the slander. Some of us happen to think it's the best music award show out there - always shines the light on a wide variety of music from a wide, diverse country. Always a healthy balance of celebrating artistry and commercial success, and of emerging talent alongside worldwide stars.

An invited artist needs to accept. Perhaps she doesn't feel it's time yet. Perhaps she's waiting for the show to be held in Montreal. Perhaps there's bad blood between her and CARAS, since she hasn't bothered to show up since 1999.

Ha! Edit, because she just made a cute, brief video appearance as I was typing this. Wishing the Junos a Happy 50th! They showed a bit of her first performance in '88.
