Flipping heck! This is really huge! I am glad they have made the decision now, and that it's one they are both happy with, but this is really gonna take some getting used to. I expect he is going to follow Rene's lead in terms of Celine's career though. At least for a while.

He seems like a very friendly faced guy, which is something I suppose. But I'll be honest, I've never heard of him before.

It is time I think... After the recent cancer scare! They have little childern, and he should devote his time to them! Although it's something some have wanted and it is something this is expected... It still feels pretty sad to me! The end of an era!

Tho I still don't know if being the CEO equals being her manager... But it is a big step in that direction!!

Funny... I always thought Patrick would follow René. Does anyone know this Aldo?

Reading the press release, they've been connected for 25 years.  Great deal of respect among all parties.  Rene is in his 70's now and will sit as Chair.  this makes total sense now.

I feel so sad about this! It doesn't seem right. I read online rumors are now starting to grow about his health, I imagine rumors about their marriage will grow as well. I wonder if they will release a statement? As weird as it sounds, this news made me slightly sick feeling. I hope everything is ok. Maybe his health is why her statement mentioned spending quality time with the kids?  It sounds silly to say it's heartbreaking, but in a way it truly is that sad to me.

I was just at the show last night (will post info about it tomorrow night). I didn't see Rene there.


My hope is he is ok, that their family is ok, and this is just a retirement.


I am just editing to also add that I also hope he enjoys his retirement!

Hmm, I don't know, I have a sad and weird feeling about this. Maybe he really is in poor health.
Somehow I have the feeling that Celine is experiencing quite some drama after her shows.

Yes it´s sad, end of an era ... but as he was and is very close to Rene and Céline I don ´t think his direction wil be more diffrent than  was  René´s. But still it´s strange ... it was aways René Angelil Céline´s husband and manager ...

I remember the press release about his health. She said she was honoring her commitments in Vegas. If the manager change is about his health, I do not think there will be much going on in her career for some time other than Vegas.

Well I wasn't expecting this today but I have to say that I wish Rene and healthy, happy and long retirement.

He delivered on his promise to Celine.  He took her to the promised land and far far FAR beyond!  He made her the international superstar she is today, he has secured her legacy and longevity with the Vegas deal - so far ahead of its time - and he delivered on just about every measure a music manager should be measured.

Grammy's, Oscars, multi-platinum selling albums, a career in French and English, number 1 singles, radio airplay records, commercial endorsements, venues being built specifically for his artist - Rene made it all happen by signing the deals and risking his livelihood.  Though all of this he also kept Celine HAPPY which, when you look at the tragic circumstances some of her peers have found themselves in, may well be his biggest achievement.

Rene has been an outstanding success as Celine's manager and we should all be grateful that back when Celine was 12 years old he took that risk! He loves to gamble for sure and boy did it pay off bigtime!

Totally, the end of an era... Also a surprise because I always thought that Patrick would replace René. Still shocked!!
After 33 years of hard work and total dedication to Celine's career, I think all we (both the fans and Celine herself) can say to René is:

the press release said he is moving he and 'his family' to Las Vegas.  The solidify's what we already know, in that Celine is in Vegas for at least another five years. (2019).  If she is doing 60-70 shows a year, it makes sense for him to be based in Vegas if he is managing her.

Contractually, I would love to know how many more albums she owes Sony/Columbia records; if any.    The fact he is titled her manager gives me the impression he'll have enough to keep him busy to leave a relatively large company in Quebec.  Clearly it will involve more than just Vegas paperwork.  That contract has been signed and done.  I do hope he adds a bit of new engery to her over the few years.  That being said, nobody could ever do for Celine's career what Rene did.  He could teach a Master Class in it.

Renée still will be the owner of CEO - Chief Executive Officer.

What i think:
Renée is doing verry well after his recovery and he also lose weight!
He takes a step back, and want to enjoy life as Celine's husband and father of RC, Eddy and Nelson!

René will be the chairman of the board. He will not be CEO.

My concern too is that he is losing weight because of the cancer...

This may explain the lack of changes for this run of summer shows. They have a lot going on behind the scenes, both personally and professionally.  I am the last person to ask for a statement, look back at my previous posts where I basically told people they ( meaning Celine and her team) owe us nothing, etc.  But, and I recognize this makes me a total hypocrite, I wish they would release something now. A statement a brief interview something. If her official website does a "did you know" about one of her siblings favorite ice cream flavors tomorrow without at least recognizing this change will be ridiculous. They have to say something. Not because they owe fans anything, but this is the end of an era where they were a team. That is over. A brief statement about such a catastrophically big change would be at least nice. All of the unknowns are too significant for them to continue being silent. But, maybe their silence is their statement. I agree about staying positive. I continue to hope and pray for his recovery and their family. But , I wish now they would say something. Say anything. Signed--the total hypocrite.
