Here's a detailed description of what went on at the Katie Couric TV special:
Josh, the producer, called us and told us to wear bright colors and absolutely no stripes or tacky logos/prints. No team Celine clothes, etc... We were asked to dress nice because we will be on Tv. He asked a few questions to get to know our relationship with Celine and when we became fans, etc...
So we were asked to arrive by 11AM because they planned on starting the interview at 11:30. Once everyone arrived they escorted us outside the hotel where we were asked to "walk in" for the camera crew looking excited and happy to be included in the Celine interview. While we were walking they kept asking us questions saying "What do you think is happening," "what will you do if you meet Celine?" etc... And all that was filmed. They even did a little piece on me and my sister because we brought all our Celine show tickets and they were shocked at how many we had.
They took us up a sleek elevator near the penthouses that eventually led to the recording studio at the Palms. They took us into a private theater (movie theater type) but didn't play any videos, it was basically a sitting area. They gave us water bottles and told us to just hang out and talk amongst each-other until they take us to another room where the interview will begin. That part was kinda nerve-wrecking because they kept saying "Celine is on the way" but every passing moment felt like an hour. About 90 minutes later the producers walked in and said they are ready for the taping. They walked us into the recording studio where Celine recorded all the new album songs and also the Taking Chances album. It was SOOO surreal to be there!!! They had 3 rows of seats and everyone jumped to sit in the front rows, so me, my mom, and sister ended up in the back row, but remember it's only 3 rows lol. So we can't really complain. We were less than 8 feet from Celine the whole time. So once we were seated, we had to wait about half an hour for Katie to arrive, then they did her final makeup touch-ups in front of us. Katie was talking to all of us, she was super nice. She gave my mom a hug and kiss. And in the meantime they said Celine is being MIC-ed. She will come out soon. Finally OUR QUEEN Celine walked out and they began the interview. Of course Katie asked Celine many questions, but I can't remember every single question. But here's my experience:
She looked absolutely stunning in an elegant dress that was green on the top half and white on the bottom. It was belted and she looked SUPER tall, skinny, and sexy. Katie asked Celine about her childhood, her parents, growing up with 13 siblings, living without money, how she met Rene, her early successes, etc... Then they started talking about Vegas and how she saved the economy in Vegas by coming back and bringing huge crowds from around the world. They didn't mention anything about the 2019 contract. They talked about A New Day and she joked the people in charge didn't know how to count because the original contract was 2 years, then she signed 3, then ended up at 5 years. Lol. It was funny, she kept joking and being sarcastic.
Then Katie started talking about Celine's relationship with her fans, and why she thinks they love her so much, Celine said she thinks her fans appreciate that she is such an "open-book," and that she shares all her joys and struggles without holding back. Celine made eye contact with the fans throughout the whole interview so we all felt pretty AMAZING!!! I was smiling and dying from happiness. She winked at my mom, she remembered us because she talked about the big frog we took her last July 24th at our meet and greet.Then Katie asked about the twins and Celine said they live in her closet. They love stuff... She said Nelson wears her heels and walks around like a pro. LMAO! She gave us a funny looks about that. It was hilarious!!
They talked some more about family life in Vegas, etc... Then they brought in Rene. Katie asked him to talk about how he discovered her. He spoke about the song Celine's mom wrote, and how Michel called him and forced him to hear it. He said he was in tears when Celine sang it for him at their first meeting, etc... More of the stuff we already know... They they talked about the children and Rene said he loves that RC is now extremely close to him. He said all boys are so attached to their moms when they are younger and all they ask for is "mommy, mommy"... But now him and RC are so close and he cherishes these moments with him. He said RC is an athlete. He plays all the sports and doesn't stop even at night. He plays golf in their backyard even late at night. He said he doesn't want to think about the future because he doesn't know if he will be around for the twins very long, but he treats every day like there's no tomorrow. He said his only regret is that he couldn't be more present in his older 3 children's lives. He said he was working too hard and missed a lot of precious time with them, but he is so happy to share each day with his 3 young children, with Celine. They asked some of the questions from twitter and surprisingly they had picked my question. So Katie told Celine, "Stephanie Bagdasarian from twitter asks "what is the strangest gift you received from a fan?"
Lol I was so happy to hear my name... Celine heard my name, OMG!!!!
She said she received a cardboard cut out of the sexiest man alive with Rene's head on it. Celine and Rene seemed to love that "gift", they are so fun!!!
Another question they asked was "what is your biggest pet peeve?" Celine said "WHAT IS THAT?" lol, then they explained to her the meaning and she said "abuse, child abuse" and elaborated on that but then she realized they meant a much lighter "pet peeve". Then she said she has no problem killing bugs and spiders, but she said she cannot tolerate the sound of cockroaches or bugs with hard shell backs being squashed. She did the sound effects, it was hilarious.
Another question was "if your house was on fire, what would be the one thing you would grab"... Of course she said her kids, but Katie said they don't count... Another question was: "will there be any changes to the show in her next run that starts in June?" She said the changes are very "soft" and don't expect a brand new show next year. The changes will always be very small.
At another point they asked if she prefers touring worldwide or staying in Vegas? She said the current show is her favorite and that jet lag is challenging and some countries have viruses going around and then they need to get vaccines... Etc... She basically meant touring is a lot of work and that she prefers Vegas. But she also said touring is a great experience and a whole different energy.
They didn't talk about the album very much. Katie said you are getting ready to release your first album in 6 years... Then a little while later, they moved the camera crew inside the studio where Katie interviewed Celine and Rene, I think about the album... we couldn't hear very much because the group was outside the glass walls. We could see more than hear. Veronic Dicaire was also there and she did a small impersonation of "my heart will go on" and "simply the best by Tina Turner. But after some talking they played "water and a flame" and said it's the title song. It's not a duet version, it's only Celine singing. It was a "rough cut", but sounded promising. Once the song was done, they piled us up for a group photo. Celine came back into our area and we took a few photos. Celine was in the middle and she spread her arms saying "my fans will go on", and in the next photo she put her two thumbs up while reaching out her arms in the middle. It was better than anyone could hope for. You know how Celine is... She gave each question a 10 minute response, so the interview lasted good 2.5 hours, probably more. They will cut out most of it out because it's only a 1 hour TV show, but I'm sure they will make it magical. It was the greatest day of my life BY FAR!!!

I believe you mean the announcement that we all know for so long which is still the same: "we're releasing an English album"
Gosh, it's an interview with the same old questions... All the public, not only the fans know those stories by heart now! i'm sure... I just hope that there will be really some concrete info about the album.
And yes, having Veronique on every show has become tiring

They took us into a private theater (movie theater type) but didn't play any videos, it was basically a sitting area. They gave us water bottles and told us to just hang out and talk amongst each-other until they take us to another room where the interview will begin. About 90 minutes later the producers walked in and said they are ready for the taping. They walked us into the recording studio where Celine recorded all the new album songs and also the Taking Chances album. It was SOOO surreal to be there!!! They had 3 rows of seats and everyone jumped to sit in the front rows, so me, my mom, and sister ended up in the back row, but remember it's only 3 rows lol. So we can't really complain. We were less than 8 feet from Celine the whole time. So once we were seated, we had to wait about half an hour for Katie to arrive, then they did her final makeup touch-ups in front of us. Katie was talking to all of us, she was super nice. She gave my mom a hug and kiss. And in the meantime they said Celine is being MIC-ed. She will come out soon. Finally OUR QUEEN Celine walked out and they began the interview. Of course Katie asked Celine many questions, but I can't remember every single question. But here's my experience:
She looked absolutely stunning in an elegant dress that was green on the top half and white on the bottom. It was belted and she looked SUPER tall, skinny, and sexy. Katie asked Celine about her childhood, her parents, growing up with 13 siblings, living without money, how she met Rene, her early successes, etc... Then they started talking about Vegas and how she saved the economy in Vegas by coming back and bringing huge crowds from around the world. They didn't mention anything about the 2019 contract. They talked about A New Day and she joked the people in charge didn't know how to count because the original contract was 2 years, then she signed 3, then ended up at 5 years. Lol. It was funny, she kept joking and being sarcastic.
Then Katie started talking about Celine's relationship with her fans, and why she thinks they love her so much, Celine said she thinks her fans appreciate that she is such an "open-book," and that she shares all her joys and struggles without holding back. Celine made eye contact with the fans throughout the whole interview so we all felt pretty AMAZING!!! I was smiling and dying from happiness. She winked at my mom, she remembered us because she talked about the big frog we took her last July 24th at our meet and greet.Then Katie asked about the twins and Celine said they live in her closet. They love stuff... She said Nelson wears her heels and walks around like a pro. LMAO! She gave us a funny looks about that. It was hilarious!!
They talked some more about family life in Vegas, etc... Then they brought in Rene. Katie asked him to talk about how he discovered her. He spoke about the song Celine's mom wrote, and how Michel called him and forced him to hear it. He said he was in tears when Celine sang it for him at their first meeting, etc... More of the stuff we already know... They they talked about the children and Rene said he loves that RC is now extremely close to him. He said all boys are so attached to their moms when they are younger and all they ask for is "mommy, mommy"... But now him and RC are so close and he cherishes these moments with him. He said RC is an athlete. He plays all the sports and doesn't stop even at night. He plays golf in their backyard even late at night. He said he doesn't want to think about the future because he doesn't know if he will be around for the twins very long, but he treats every day like there's no tomorrow. He said his only regret is that he couldn't be more present in his older 3 children's lives. He said he was working too hard and missed a lot of precious time with them, but he is so happy to share each day with his 3 young children, with Celine. They asked some of the questions from twitter and surprisingly they had picked my question. So Katie told Celine, "Stephanie Bagdasarian from twitter asks "what is the strangest gift you received from a fan?"
Lol I was so happy to hear my name... Celine heard my name, OMG!!!!
She said she received a cardboard cut out of the sexiest man alive with Rene's head on it. Celine and Rene seemed to love that "gift", they are so fun!!!
Another question they asked was "what is your biggest pet peeve?" Celine said "WHAT IS THAT?" lol, then they explained to her the meaning and she said "abuse, child abuse" and elaborated on that but then she realized they meant a much lighter "pet peeve". Then she said she has no problem killing bugs and spiders, but she said she cannot tolerate the sound of cockroaches or bugs with hard shell backs being squashed. She did the sound effects, it was hilarious.
Another question was "if your house was on fire, what would be the one thing you would grab"... Of course she said her kids, but Katie said they don't count... Celine took some time to think, and while it was silent, I yelled out "charlie"... Lol Celine looked at me and then looked at Katie and said that's our dog, see the fans know. LOL!!
Another question was "if you could have dinner with any 3 people, living or dead, who would they be?" She said her dad, Eddy Marnay, and her niece Karine. She explained why...

At another point they asked if she prefers touring worldwide or staying in Vegas? She said the current show is her favorite and that jet lag is challenging and some countries have viruses going around and then they need to get vaccines... Etc... She basically meant touring is a lot of work and that she prefers Vegas. But she also said touring is a great experience and a whole different energy.
They didn't talk about the album very much. Katie said you are getting ready to release your first album in 6 years... Then a little while later, they moved the camera crew inside the studio where Katie interviewed Celine and Rene, I think about the album... we couldn't hear very much because the group was outside the glass walls. We could see more than hear. Veronic Dicaire was also there and she did a small impersonation of "my heart will go on" and "simply the best by Tina Turner. But after some talking they played "water and a flame" and said it's the title song. It's not a duet version, it's only Celine singing. It was a "rough cut", but sounded promising. Once the song was done, they piled us up for a group photo. Celine came back into our area and we took a few photos. Celine was in the middle and she spread her arms saying "my fans will go on", and in the next photo she put her two thumbs up while reaching out her arms in the middle. It was better than anyone could hope for. You know how Celine is... She gave each question a 10 minute response, so the interview lasted good 2.5 hours, probably more. They will cut out most of it out because it's only a 1 hour TV show, but I'm sure they will make it magical. It was the greatest day of my life BY FAR!!!

Celine cares more about her family than her albums/work/talent/Untouchable Olympian vocal abilities. I agree, I would LOVE to hear Celine talk her career…

And to hear background stories of ALL of her albums.
And if she's ever wondered about what her career will be beyond Rene.
And if she ever goes back and listens to her own voice and how it's evolved.

I'm right there in that boat with you. So is everyone else on this forum who respects her decision to stay in Vegas and love her family. We share more common ground than it seems.
The reality is Celine is more interested in talking about the "normal" aspects of her life. She tries to talk herself into being normal (and surface-level type of people might even think, "Oh, Celine Dion really is just like us!") -- but SHE IS NOT NORMAL. Deep down Celine knows she's different/special/chosen and that's why she fights against it so hard. We cannot fathom what it feels like to be her/of that magnitude. When hosts/fans/etc. praise her or discuss her talent and achievements, she deflects it! But no matter how hard Celine Dion pretends to be "one of us" and avoids all questions pertaining to her abilities, we have to remember (even if she rarely acknowledges it) -- she is an ICON, with innate talent most of us cannot fathom. The constant chatter about family doesn't take away from that. It's what keeps her normal, alive, and grounded. Look at others with comparable talent and didn't have ways to cope: Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston. We've seen how the deaths of these icons have affected Celine. She's been very vocal about hows that's her fear.
So look at her decision to stay grounded in Vegas with educated perspective. She, in her own way, saving herself. Might sound flighty but it makes total, logical sense.

But talking about music doesn't exclude living in Las Vegas and having a grounded life. We've had such interviews before and it's enough. We know that story and I think we respect the way she wants to live. The thing is that she could at least once talk about music mainly because if she creates one for instance I'd like to know why she chose this and that song/songwriter/theme etc and also because it's her first album since 2007. Even general publicity knows what was happening to her post-tour etc but as far as music is concerned many people don't even know that she is performing!

Celine said "WHAT IS THAT?" lol, then they explained to her the meaning and she said "abuse, child abuse" and elaborated on that but then she realized they meant a much lighter "pet peeve". Then she said she has no problem killing bugs and spiders, but she said she cannot tolerate the sound of cockroaches or bugs with hard shell backs being squashed. She did the sound effects, it was hilarious.
Another question was "if your house was on fire, what would be the one thing you would grab"... Of course she said her kids, but Katie said they don't count... Celine took some time to think, and while it was silent, I yelled out "charlie"... Lol Celine looked at me and then looked at Katie and said that's our dog, see the fans know. LOL!!
Another question was "if you could have dinner with any 3 people, living or dead, who would they be?" She said her dad, Eddy Marnay, and her niece Karine. She explained why...
Another question was: "what is your all time favorite movie"... Celine said, "it's not the movie you want to hear. It's not the Titanic. My favorite movies are the home movies of when my dad was alive with RC", etc...
Another question was: "will there be any changes to the show in her next run that starts in June?" She said the changes are very "soft" and don't expect a brand new show next year. The changes will always be very small.
At another point they asked if she prefers touring worldwide or staying in Vegas? She said the current show is her favorite and that jet lag is challenging and some countries have viruses going around and then they need to get vaccines... Etc... She basically meant touring is a lot of work and that she prefers Vegas. But she also said touring is a great experience and a whole different energy.
They didn't talk about the album very much. Katie said you are getting ready to release your first album in 6 years... Then a little while later, they moved the camera crew inside the studio where Katie interviewed Celine and Rene, I think about the album... we couldn't hear very much because the group was outside the glass walls. We could see more than hear. Veronic Dicaire was also there and she did a small impersonation of "my heart will go on" and "simply the best by Tina Turner. But after some talking they played "water and a flame" and said it's the title song. It's not a duet version, it's only Celine singing. It was a "rough cut", but sounded promising. Once the song was done, they piled us up for a group photo. Celine came back into our area and we took a few photos. Celine was in the middle and she spread her arms saying "my fans will go on", and in the next photo she put her two thumbs up while reaching out her arms in the middle. It was better than anyone could hope for. You know how Celine is... She gave each question a 10 minute response, so the interview lasted good 2.5 hours, probably more. They will cut out most of it out because it's only a 1 hour TV show, but I'm sure they will make it magical. It was the greatest day of my life BY FAR!!!

About 90 minutes later the producers walked in and said they are ready for the taping. They walked us into the recording studio where Celine recorded all the new album songs and also the Taking Chances album. It was SOOO surreal to be there!!! They had 3 rows of seats and everyone jumped to sit in the front rows, so me, my mom, and sister ended up in the back row, but remember it's only 3 rows lol. So we can't really complain. We were less than 8 feet from Celine the whole time. So once we were seated, we had to wait about half an hour for Katie to arrive, then they did her final makeup touch-ups in front of us. Katie was talking to all of us, she was super nice. She gave my mom a hug and kiss. And in the meantime they said Celine is being MIC-ed. She will come out soon. Finally OUR QUEEN Celine walked out and they began the interview. Of course Katie asked Celine many questions, but I can't remember every single question. But here's my experience:
She looked absolutely stunning in an elegant dress that was green on the top half and white on the bottom. It was belted and she looked SUPER tall, skinny, and sexy. Katie asked Celine about her childhood, her parents, growing up with 13 siblings, living without money, how she met Rene, her early successes, etc... Then they started talking about Vegas and how she saved the economy in Vegas by coming back and bringing huge crowds from around the world. They didn't mention anything about the 2019 contract. They talked about A New Day and she joked the people in charge didn't know how to count because the original contract was 2 years, then she signed 3, then ended up at 5 years. Lol. It was funny, she kept joking and being sarcastic.
Then Katie started talking about Celine's relationship with her fans, and why she thinks they love her so much, Celine said she thinks her fans appreciate that she is such an "open-book," and that she shares all her joys and struggles without holding back. I think a lot of fans feel that way. That's part of why the Sans Attendre promo was so great -- the songs were very personal and intimate, and she could talk about their meaning while talking about her family at the same time. perfect! Unfortunately, her English albums are usually significantly less personal than her French ones.

Very very good post! yes I think all of our questions regarding why this and that and why not singing more of your own repertoire, those are the questions she won't answer, as a matter of fact, those are the questions they will not allow you to ask her. Because, just like you say, Celine is a product and the product has to sell. Negative comments won't do her image good. So the questions will be like always, just as the answers to those questions.

there is nothing comparable in french...i have searched.... It is always off, whatever you use. English is great for this kind of thing.
