Hi people! I wanted to put this in the french section but it's pretty much dead down there.

I wanted to share I'll be most likely moving to Paris in august and I'd love to meet some of you guys and maybe you can give me some tips!

I've already been there and I speak the language... but... still!

I'm really looking forward to it! any parisians or french people living in Paris here? :D

I'm moving to Paris in August too!!!  I'm doing a 12 month work placement at Groupe Express-Roularta as part of my university degree course :)

I'm trying to find accommodation at the moment, but it's so difficult and expensive!

And yeah, accomodation is really expensive. I haven't really got to that point yet since it's a bit far ahead still.
I'd really love to live intramuros... but well, we'll see!

Living in the outskirts is much better, in my opinion.

My colleagues live in the center and have small, old, expensive apartments, with lots of city noise and pollution.  Their rent is easily twice as much as mine.

Just be careful about the cheap flats though... http://www.theguardi...nting-expensive

I've seen some friend's flats in the center of town that are not too far from this!

But, they're closer to the bars, restaurants, cafés - if that's what you want to experience, I guess it's better to be central!

I love living in the residential areas, with flowers and fountains in the roundabouts, waking up at the weekend with the birds singing in the trees! And no noise!

Hey thanks a lot guys! Yeah I know it's so expensive to live in Paris... but still I'm afraid to go to banlieu since I don't really have much information and I've been told some areas can be quite dangerous... plus commuting.

I'll be working close to Saint-Lazare station. So which areas would be cool? Asnieres-sur Seine?

Yer, commuting can be a pain - the metro in the summer when the train is full of hot, sweaty people is not a pleasant sight.  Or smell...

I chose to live in the outskirts because it was close to the office, and I didn't want to have to commute.

My coworkers travel about 10 km each way, and it takes them between an hour and 90 minutes to get to work each morning.  For me, it's a 25-minute walk.  And no bad body odour to inhale!

The communes near me are safe.  I've never felt uneasy even walking the streets at 1 or 2am.  I think the north of Paris, St Denis etc., is very rough.  It doesn't look nice, even from the Eurostar.

I was thinking about 2eme, 9eme, 18eme, 11eme, 10eme or 19eme arrondisement... or maybe Asnieres-sur-Seine (in that order). Is it too impossible to afford?

Bryan Adams is doing a show at the Zénith on December 5th, I've just booked a ticket :-D   Hopefully I've have the opportunity to see more shows while I'm there!

No. It is the arrondissement where you find Alesia (my favorite area to stay when I visit and the area where I lived when I was a student ) and the Gare Montparnasse.
