I also heard her say that about JFK. I wonder why she mentioned his name seeing as how she wasn't born when he was killed. But I guess, like the other celebrities that were mentioned perhaps just the level of devastation at the suddenness of his death was her point. So sad.

Anyone else been seeing an increase in sales of Michael memorabilia? I saw something on the CNN ticker about the sale of his glittery glove.

CSC Fan, who is this quote from?

R says: “The comparison to Presley is almost frightening. When you go that far you have no where else to go. Celine Dion says it the best. She says how you continue to try to beat yourself? You have no one else to out do so you try to out do yourself. Once you reach that pinnacle of success you have to learn how to coast through it. Celine went to Las Vegas and relaxed. Hendrix and others blasted themselves right out of here. Michael’s exit was slower. They are saying he was pretty sick. They also just reported that his will stipulates the Beatles catalog goes back to Paul. That he regretted losing Paul’s friendship.”

It is, after "The Essential Michael Jackson." And the beautiful ballad "Man In The Mirror" is the second most-downloaded song.

Quote

Celine's Statement Concerning Michael Jackson's Death
June 26 , 2009

"I am so devastated by this terrible news. From the beginning of my career, he was my idol in show business. He was a genius and an incredible artist!! I remember when I was growing up and watching him on TV, and all his videos... I had his poster on my wall... he was so amazing... his singing, his writing, his dancing. We had the same record company, and they knew I was a huge fan, so when things started to happen for me, they arranged for us to meet. I was so nervous, and so excited at the same time, and Michael was so nice. He autographed one of his hats for me.... I was so thrilled. Years later, he came to see my Las Vegas show and we spent some time together... and we were really looking forward to seeing his show in London. It's unbelievable that he's no longer with us. It still hasn't sunk in. I guess we're just finding out what happened, but all I can say is that he must have been under an enormous amount of pressure... to do the shows, and to keep on top of everything, plus this was going to be his big comeback. This is a lot of pressure and it can be overwhelming for anyone. I'm sure it was just too much to handle. Right now, along with millions and millions of others I am so sad... and I just want to send my prayers and love to Michael's family. I can't imagine how difficult this is for them... to lose someone so special. And it's the same for everyone in the world who loses a loved one. It just keeps reminding us of how precious life is, and that we never know when it's our time. God Bless his soul.

Celine Dion on CNN with Larry King:
I am shocked like the rest of the world. It doesn't sink in right now. I'm overwhelmed by this tragedy. I have to say to you, Michael Jackson's been an idol for me all my life. I remember being in my house when I was very, very young and having his posters above my bedroom. He's been my idol all my life and looking up to him. And my goal was to be maybe doing the same show business world as him. And I was listening to his music and I hoped to be meeting him one day, and I have to tell you that I was very privileged to be on the same record company as him, and I did meet him a long, long time ago and I was so thrilled and nervous when I had the privilege of meeting with him. He was so kind, he gave me his autograph and I have a hat of his with his autograph and it always had an amazing meaning to me, but now it has a totally different meaning to me.

And we sang together, and I was looking forward to seeing his show in London, my husband and I, and Michael came to Las Vegas to see my show, and I was more than honored to have him.

LARRY KING: Did he come backstage?

He came backstage, we spent about an hour together and he had a lot of questions for me. He was very… to me, he seemed to be, like, I want to know so much. I want to know how it is to be in Las Vegas. How it is, Celine, to sing every night here, is it difficult, is it difficult to sing here every night, is it demanding? I felt that he wanted to know so much. And me, I wanted to know so much, I wanted to know so much from him, but it seemed that, it seemed  to me so fragile. And he wanted to have questions answered and I was amazed to have him in my dressing room.

LARRY KING: When you’re performing and you have someone like that in the audience, are you constantly aware of his presence?

Absolutely, you cannot do otherwise, and I have to say that I was questioning myself through the whole show: Can I announce him, do I give him his private time? Am I going to abuse his private time to announce him? Should I? I want to do it so much—and I did. I did announce him and the whole colesseum, the whole crowd went crazy, because Michael Jackson was not only an extremely talented person, he was unique and he was a genius. And when I said, “Ladies and gentlemen, Michael Jackson is with us tonight,” I thought people were going to jump off the balcony. People went crazy, and I have to say, it is such a loss, because even right now, we’re home and we’re watching images and it feels like when Kennedy died, when Elvis Presley died. We’re not only talking about a talented person dying, it’s an amazing loss.

My sympathy goes to the family. It’s a big loss. It’s not even sinking in right now. I’m looking at the image on TV, and my son is 8 years old—and he knows his name, he’s listening to his songs—but it’s brand new for him, like I’m rediscovering Michael Jackson again… I grew up with him, and through my son, I’m discovering his music again. He will never die. He will never, ever die. My sympathy goes to his whole family.

LARRY KING: From a performer’s opinion, what was his greatness? Was he a great singer?

I think he was just an amazing genius, dancing, singing. I think it’s so unfortunate, Larry, because since he’s very little, he’s under pressure. I think we all live under pressure, differently; we live under pressure because we want to give the audience and the fans what they look forward, what they expect. We want to do a better album, we want to do a better show. I think Michael Jackson lived under pressure all the time, since he’s 5 years old. One thing to please his family, his fans and putting the bar so high, that he needed to be suppressing his own self. And I think it’s unfortunate because the pressure was so tremendous, I am so sure, if you only live under pressure and you don’t have something like your family, your husband or your wife, your children… I mean, he probably lived so much… he didn’t have the balance. I am sorry, my sympathies to the whole family. It is a big loss for all of us.

In the last part I'm pretty sure Céline says "he needed to be surpassing his own self" not "suppressing".
"Il avait besoin de se surpasser lui-même".  And that's why the pressure was always so high I think. Maybe her french got a little bit in the way here.
Anyway, thanks Chuck for this full transcript, it's much appreciated. :thumbsup2:

I think she did mean suppressing. Its like he lived for his music/career and as Michael Jackson the legend, and never really lived as Mr Michael Jackson.  Like he suppressed the man he would have been if he'd have grown up as a normal guy with a normal job etc. Thankfully Celine has never been like that - it's a shame that any celebrity has to grow up with such pressure. There's enough of it once you grow up - you sure don't need it when you're a child
RIP Michael - you're music and legend will live on forever.

No it was surpass, because she used the same phrase in her english interivew and said surpass. I think she had in written down in order to stay calm and respectful. :)

First of all, may he rest in peace! Michael is the first foreign artist I've ever heard about, when I was about 8, and my country was still under the communism, so we didn't get foreign music officially, but it was smuggled in.
I just watched the French interview of Celine. She does say pretty much the same thing as on Larry King. But she got very emotional when she was talking about the pressure a star of this magnitude must endure, and how he couldn't have a normal life and I think she got that emotionally not because she was talking about Michael's death, but because that's what she goes through as well. And then, the reporter tells her that she's one of the very few people that can understand that pressure and she just totally lost it when he made that remark.... For sure it made her think about her situation. She said that she is lucky to have such a great career, but it comes at cost she wishes she didn't have to pay. And she also says she doesn't wish for anybody to feel the kind of pressure that comes with that level of celebrity, that when you choose to live as an open book, there's a price to pay.
The reporter told her someone said Michael has never been happy, and she said she also believes he never had a moment of happiness.
She said that, unlike him, she was lucky to have her family, to have stability in her love life and family life and that's her biggest success.
Like some of you here, I can't even imagine how I would deal with it if it were Celine, so I really feel for Michael's die-hard fans, like I am of Celine. But I know Celine is smarter than that, she knows better than to stuff herself with pills and stuff... God forbid some accident, I'm sure Celine will die a very old woman in her bed surrounded by a big loving family, and I gotta tell you conforts me to know she's so balanced.

On a lighter note, here is Céline talking about being a big fan of Michael back in 1993 on this Canadian show dedicated to her.  She talked about doing imitations on her 1988's Incognito tour, about the fedora she got from him and having the privilege to meet him and... It seems like it was such a long time ago.

Céline on the Shirley Show in 1993.  She talks about him beginning at 3:20 to around 4:55 :
