Everyone will have an equal oppurtunity to see her perform. Yes, some people will have to travel for thousands of miles. Yes, you will probably need to take an hotel/motel. But at least you'll have the chance to meet her.
And it can actually be cheap...
Fares for travelling by plane have dropped and unless you are willing to go in the high season (July/August) you don't have to spend a huge amount of money to travel. When you book a ticket on the right time it will be cheap... Let's say about 500 USD for a returnticket is possible during periods when airlines (or travelagencies) have some sales. And for that amount you can travel long haul from Europe to Vegas and probably from other continents also. For the same fee I can't even travel within Europe with a full service carrier, I've just booked another ticket for a intra-Europe flight and it did cost me about 650 USD (and it's in cattle class, not even business).
In Vegas you'll find more hotels then anywhere in the world, this has as a result that rooms can be very very cheap. Even for a high end hotel you'll pay only a fraction of what you would pay outside the US. Hotels in the US are rather cheap compared to the rest of the world but then again, you'll have plenty of choice, nearly on every corner you will find a place to stay. It can be a Hilton but it can also be a motel 6 or similar... In the neighbourhood of Vegas you can find even (decent) hotels with rooms for less then 20 USD per night per room... Even when you look carefully you can find rooms for 5 USD a night. But you'll have to look for it.
Food and beverage... While you can eat a hamburger for several hundreds of Dollars you can also eat a lot cheaper in Vegas. Vegas is the place where you can eat as much as you can for only a couple of Dollars... And some buffets are really good. When you play a couple of quarters you can even drink for free (although service is not a good as used to be due the crisis).
Leaves me with the price of the tickets... Ticketprices are similar then when she's touring so the show itself is not more expensive.
To conclude: Travelling by plane can be expensive but if you are looking for a bargain airfare you will eventually find one. Accomodation can be very cheap, you'll just have to look for it and maybe use a coupon or so. Food & Beverages can also be very cheap. Instead of eating at one of Wolfgang Puck's restaurants you can eat at a buffet or so
Seeing her perform in your own country or in the country next to you can also be (very) expensive. And since there is still at least one full year to go there is plenty of time to save a little bit to go and see her. No need to rush since she'll be there for about 3 years.
Regarding the "very busy and exhausted" part of your reply:
Actually, Vegas will be way less demanding for Céline then any world tour (mini or full) will be. You can't compare a show on 1 fixed place with a tour... A tour is way more demanding and exhausting then performing on 1 fixed place. In Vegas she has her own place to stay, she ownes a nice house which she can call "home", she can sleep every single night in her own bed, she only needs to drive for a couple of minutes and she's at home where she can relax in her own sofa for her own television with maybe a bottle of wine from her own wine cellar and where she can play with Rene Charles in her own garden. It's a place she really can call "home". Even the most luxurious hotel can't compete with a real home.
Travelling is exhausting... Yes she stays in 5 star hotels, yes she's driven in big Mercedes S-Types with a lot a luxury, yes she used her own luxurious long range private jet but it's not all glory you see...
Sometimes when travelling in one part of the world she stays in 1 fixed hotel which is centrally located. Sometimes she needs to travel for hundreds of miles before performing. Yet aftwerwards she need to do the same to get into the hotel. And while she has most of time an police escort there is always something that can happen. The car can break down, an accident can happen or the road can be blocked when she has only a certain amount of time to spare...
And even when travelling with a luxurious private jet there are some consequenses... Slots for departure and landing have to be requested. On some busy international airports slots are limited and expensive. On other, smaller airports, they have limited operating hours. (for example: when she was performing in Belgium she stayed in Brussels while performing in Antwerp. She flew into the Antwerp airport and her jet remained there. However, Antwerp is not 24/24 open and since the last show was running late the plane had to be relocated. It took of empty and was ferried to Brussels where the airport is open 24/24.) It's more complicated then in all seams to be. It's not as easy as it all seams. And all this causes stress, even with Céline because if she runs late due circumstances her show runs late also and so does the schedule...
Jumping on and off planes and cars, sleeping in new beds day after day, change of time zones, jetlags, only limited time for yourself and your family... That's exhausting...
Anyone who travels (a lot) for business or pleasure can confirm this. Travelling is exhausting. Even when flying business or first class or with a private jet...
Performing in Vegas will be like being on vacation for her... A way more relaxed schedule, plenty of time for herself and her family and her "own" home to crash... Heaven on earth

This is something I've read multiple times on this board
"I don't really like this or that" is something I've read multiple times... While everyone's opinion is important I always think by myself:
What about Céline herself? What is best for her? Does someone takes that in account? What she likes? What she thinks is best? She's a person too with a life, with a family... Not only an artist whe adore, admire,...
I know that we, fans, would love her to see performing year in, year out, close to us, all over the world... But it's not all about us you know
Just my 2 cents

I agree. Celine is doing Vegas more so for her family, then she is herself. This is not something she would have done in the 90's.....but with a child, and potentially a second, she needs stability. Bringing RC around the world for a year was fun, but she can't do that for his entire up-bringing. He deserves a normal life, where he will have the same school and opportunity for friends. Celine can either do a few things:
1. Tour Continuously - Unfair for the family, more fair for the fans.
2. Retire - Fair for the family, unfair for the fans.
3. Vegas - reach a happy medium - provide some stability, while also providing for the fans too.
At 41 years old, she is not the same person she was when she was 25....she has responsibilities, and a different outlook on life. Singing is not her biggest passion anymore, it's her family.

That's not entirely correct...
Las Vegas is her "home"... (Or at least one of their homes). It is a place she has a connection to, it is a place where she have a property, a house which she can call "home". A place were she can actually be every single night at their home together with Rene and Rene Charles, maybe a second child if it works out in the end, her mother, friends,... It's a place she's connected to. It's not only a workspot for her but it's a place she really can call "home".
And that is a really big difference... It creates stability, rest, peace even with a busy schedule... She can record a new album when being in Vegas and she can promote it from Vegas, at least if the recordcompany does their work...
A few tours arround the world while promoting isn't indeed a genuine world tour but it still takes a lot from a person, it's still flying thousands of miles, sleeping in hotels, rushing to recordcompanies, radiostations, TV stations, etc... It's maybe even harder then a genuine worldtour because the schedule is much more busier but on a limited amount of time...
And again... Céline is not the Céline of a decade ago... Céline Dion anno 2009 is a caring mother with a loving husband a beautifull son and a mother who is getting slightly older who she cares about... Maybe she doesn't want to be continuesly on the number 1 spot? Maybe she wants to live her life on her terms...
Sometimes things are changing in people's lives which makes then realise there is more in the world then working/touring/singing/etc... To give a personal example... Before December 26, 2008 I was a workaholic, I lived to work... Even when I was at home I was always working, I was busy about my job and I was also busy with a hobby which became a (non paid) second job... This untill 08:25AM that morning when my father waked me in panic yelling that there was something with my mother... December 26 2008 8:25AM is a moment in my life that changed it for good... At that moment it became clear that my mother had died after being missdiagnosed by our doctor... It changed my life forever... Not only due the grief but also because I started to think about life itself, I realised that it can be over anytime and that I should embrace the life and live it to the fullest... I don't live to work anymore... I work to live... To make sure I can enjoy life at every single moment. I started to travel and priorities changed... With me it was the dead of my mother which caused it but there are unlimited amount of causes that can change peoples life...
I think we all need to respect Céline her choices even when we don't find it pleasant or think she must do otherwise... It's her choice and not ours, she has probably a very good reason. Maybe a reason that's hard to understand by everyone, especially by her fans... But in the end, I think that every single fan will be happy with her choice because every single fan wants the best for Céline herself... We can be disappointed but on the other hand, when the disappointed or the anger is gone you'll notice that you will be happy with her choice... Because you, I and all the other fans arround the world would the best for her and her family...

Ditto. This way her kid(s) will get somewhat of a normal life, they deserve to sleep in their own room and go to the same school and have their friends over if they'd like to. That just wouldn't work on a tour (and we all know Celine would never go on tour without her family)

You'll probably forgot that Céline did also get sick while touring around the world? And that people in general are getting sick on occasions?
Even when she performed in Vegas she had plenty of time available... And yes, practising is necessary but since it's close to her home there is less stress involved. And when the new show in Las Vegas starts it will probably be a less demanding schedule...
I don't mind that she sings lower, at least you can be sure then that she sings live... Céline did even playback more while touring then during all those shows she did in Vegas... Not because Céline doesn't like singing but to save her voice...
You know, the best thing she can do for herself and her family would to retire completely and just be a regular family... But I assume that you wouldn't like that either?

Sure they denied it because it was clear back then that the new years eve date wouldn't be possible to maintain... And yet she isn't opening on NYE... So nothing is changed...
The initial plan was to start indeed on new years eve, at least they thought about it but due the fact that Céline wasn't pregnant they had to find another date...
Considering that the new IVF didn't work out (yet) and that it is possible that it wont work at all I assume they are slowly thinking about a final date to start... I assume they will start the new shows somewhere arround the start or the end of summer 2011...
Depending on the outcome of the continued IVF procedures I assume they will annouce something arround the summer season of 2010...

As much as I love Beyonce and give her credit as one of the most awesome performers of this century, I don't think she'll be taking away Celine's audience.
Also, I don't think B can do Vegas as much as Celine did and will do
I totally agree with Manuel on this one
