Celine's first singles was never big sellers in Switzerland. And in lots of other contries. Falling into you... Tell him... I drove all night... And than every single album was a big succsess.
Celine Fans buy albums, Celine sells albums - and this is the only important profitably Criterion in the actual music industry. Or I'm wrong...?

Why so nervous? The only problem I share with you is ALONE for the 2nd single. I can see headings like "Celine Dion the only copy machine with lipstik and long hair". Please not!

I think some of you exagerate the importance of the single playing a lot on radio to sell an album. That's not necessarily true all the time. Some song gets to be played a lot on radio, but the albums sold remain low. On the contrary, some songs just get decent airplay but the album sells a lot.

However, people has to know a new cd is out. So of course you need "some" airplay. But it is not necessary to push the song in their head 40 times a day. They will buy the album if they like what they hear, not because of the number of times they hear it. And then when radio stations see that an album is selling well, they will play the song. That's what has happened mostly in Celine career.

The problem with radio, particularly pop stations, is that more than ever they play only songs that are formated to their style of music. But that formated sound is not necessarily what people want to hear at home or in their car.

I don't pretend to understand the ins and outs of the US chart system but the fact is Britney's new single has gone into the Billboard Hot 100 at #3 and Celine isn't anywhere near even getting into the top 100.  Now this may be due to airplay, downloads, promotion or whatever but the single fact remains that Celine isn't charting.  The album lands in 5 weeks, the single should be impacting now!

On a more positive note, the UK single has been confirmed for release on October 29th and I am very confident that Celine will at least get into the top 10 in the UK, our singles chart has deteriorated so much that it shouldn't be difficult to achieve even with a total lack of promotion from Sony UK.

i'm not worried about the u.k for a change - celine will be there and that's about enough . it's the best promotion in the world as always
she'll have a huge first week sales for the new album there ...the question is what would happen few weeks after the release...

as for the u.s - the album won't bomb in the first few weeks and again it's all thanks to the promotional machine that is CELINE DION - she is doing it all - oprah , dancing with the stars , good morning america and i'm certain she'll do leno , the view and others...but again for long term commercial success - radio stations must play her songs and how can they do it if they don't get them from sony?

The promo is maybe not perfect...But for me it's clear that's Sony has a lot of trust in this album and wants to support it. That's what we can read in the Billboard magazine, and we can see that everything is beginning now. About the radio, it seems that Sony tried a lot to add Celine again on pop stations...They even tried to send the single has a mystery artist. But it didn't work. So what can they do now if the radio are not into this song ?

And people put other artists into the discussion to compare how Celine is doing in the charts, it isn't about competition and who is the better singer. We are all here because we love Celine, we love her music but also we are passionate about her chart positions because we want to see her music do well and get as much exposure to as many people as possible.  A high chart position will help this.

I understand but I don't see why people here -when it comes to charts-  compare with Britney... Britney is downloaded very much (and so charted very high!) and Céline, not! Quite logical as she is mainly played on AC stations and people who listen to them aren't the target audience of Itunes (more teenagers I suppose)!

So if we had to compare artists, let's do it with artists of the same situation! All you say is  : the fact is Céline is not on the Billboard Hot 100 and Britney is 3 .. and what? Britney isn't censured by radio ( coz Celine is : that's obvious) and is everywhere on people magazine !

I'm not worried at all- Celine will do brilliantly.  Tell me- what was this whole process like for ANDHC- it wasn't number 3 on the Billboard Hot Chart a month before the album landed was it?

Ooooh wait. Maybe we could get Celine to start drinking and driving around with RC in the car. Ooooh and we could get her to go out clubbing in Vegas every night to where she is so hung over she has to start cancelling some shows.

Seriously though, even if it means less press for her, I am glad she is not this way. It kinda makes me sick everytime I hear Britney on the radio. She can totally trash her reputation, have almost no talent and still be coming on strong on the radio. Celine is a good person, she doesn't do any of this stuff and its one of the most talented singers in the world, yet radio won't play her stuff. I really think that is the part that makes me kinda mad.

I agree no one expect anything great from Britney right now, not even her fans. They just want to see how bad she is now.

Britney will have a number 1 single but Celine will sell many more millions of her album. Many more. Celine's core audience is completely different to Brit's. Brit's are the ones who download, go on iTunes- the internet generation and all. Celine's audience are the one's in their 20s-60s (v broad generalisation). But this equates to many more people. My mum will be getting Celine's, so will my 2 Aunts, my hairdresser as well as many of my friends. And they won't be illegally downloading it either. None of them will be getting Britney's I'm pretty sure. Taking Chances will be in many millions of Christmas Stockings while Blackout will be Roasting on an Open Fire.

I'm not talking about Britney in another post. This is Celine's time. This is her favourite album yet and I refuse to let Britney Spear's lose-her-children-take-drugs-drive-illegally-get-fat-promoted-GIMME-MORE-cocaine ruin it for me.

I think as the release day comes closer, the promotion mill is going to run in full swing. Also, the video to this single may also help it promote it. But I wonder where its gonna be played. MTV doesn't care about Celine. And I dont know about other music channels in the US. But its for sure MTV Asia, MTV India, Channel [V] and VH1 India are surely gonna play the video here in India and the rest of Asia. Channel [V] loves Celine. If VH1 India could play JNVOP and IBIY, then I am sure Taking Chances is gonna be a hit here.

But fans in the US need to do a lot more to promote her   She is still snickered there, isn't she??

I think that's great, because Asia is the future. How many (western) albums can one artist sell in India in a year? Does it have any impact on worldwide sales?

It definitely does. But the rules for the certification of the album sales have been revamped here and I must say, they have made it more strict for International artists whereas the old rule applies for Indian artists (which in my opinion is crazy).

For an International artist to get a :

Gold certification - needs to sell 25,000 copies within one year of the album's release (before it was 10,000 copies).

Platinum certification - needs to sell 50,000 copies within one year of its release (before it was 25,000)

Diamond certification - needs to sell 250,000 copies within one year of its release (before it was 100,000)


This is the reason why the only Gold certified album by Celine here in India is LTAL which sold over 30,000 in one year but now it has sold more. Same is the case with the rest of her albums.

The only Diamond certified album by an International artist is "Escape" by Enrique Iglesias. Enrique has been very successful here and now he has overtaken Celine to become the best-selling International artist in India    But Celine is still the best selling female here
