May 3, 2007 (LAS VEGAS) - Thar she blows! Bette Midler today officially announced that she is headed for Las Vegas. The legendary sensation has signed on with entertainment promoter AEG Live for a minimum two year deal as the new resident artist at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace starting in February 2008.  When asked about her upcoming run in Las Vegas - The Divine Miss M had this to say.

"Get ready Vegas 'cause here I come! Caesars Palace will never be the same and to all those critics who have accused me of being 'tacky,' 'too much' and 'over the top' I say, you ain't seen nuthin' yet!"

The show, which is scheduled to premiere on February 20, 2008, will be the biggest, most imaginative production Bette Midler has ever done. With plenty of girls, gags and guffaws, her incomparable humor, the best song catalogue in American music and her fabulous "Kiss My Brass" section, audiences will be treated to an experience that can only be referred to as "divine".

"All of us at AEG Live are ecstatic about working with Bette and look forward to the fun and success we are going to have together on this project," said John Meglen, Co-CEO and President of AEG Live/Concerts West. "The show is going to be Bette at her absolute best and her fans are going to be blown away!"

For over 40 years, Caesars Palace has set the standard in entertainment by offering its guests world-class performers and musicians. In keeping with that standard, Caesars Palace President, Gary Selesner couldn't be happier that Bette Midler will be coming aboard and calling The Colosseum home for the next two years.

Bette Midler will perform approximately one hundred shows a year at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. The show will be presented at 7:30 p.m. five nights a week and will be dark on Monday and Thursday.  Tickets for performances from February 20 through March 9 are on sale now and can be purchased by calling 1-877-7BETTEM (723-8836) or on-line at www.ticketmaster.com, keyword "Caesars Palace". Tickets may also be purchased in person at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace Box Office open daily from 10a.m. to 10p.m.  For groups of 20 or more, call 702.731.7208.

That was exactly what I thought right now.... seeing this picture of Bette at the colosseum Feb 2008... Oh Gosh... lol I'm gonna cry!!!!

Yeah, it will be sad to think it's over. But what an exciting time for Bette fans! We know exactly how they will be feeling, having almost daily access to their idol. I hope she's as successful as Celine was. And we have new things to look forward to, it will soon be time for us to move on to a new chapter in Celine's career and I for one am really excited about this.

The end is near guys...This whole Celine and Bette has been all over the news.  It was been on every single channel here in Miami.  They always show clips of Celine at A New Day.  One newstation said that it's going to be hard to follow/replace such talent!!!    -Ever

Bette's prices are higher than Celine's. Bit surprising.  

Good luck to her though. Wish her the same success that Celine had. Who knows Celine could be the first in a string of successful vocalists at the palace!

Elton's ticket prices are higher than Celine's too and his contract is worth more money, since he does less shows for the amount he was paid. I wonder how much Bette will get? And Perez Hilton have apparently got exclusive confirmation that Cher will actually be the other act at the Colosseum, like we thought....I suppose her tickets will be around the same price too.

I WAS THERE AT THE PRESSCONFERENCE!!!     

it was great too see it... especially because there were some dancers from AND!

The stupid thing was.... there weren't that much questions! and the questions that did came, were quite stupid! I dunno if it's said already.. but they are going to tilt the stage down, like it was orginally designed I think it's stupid, cos you have a great view now! but oh well.... the one thing that bothered me, was they didn't really gave credit to the one, for who the colloseum was orginally build! I think they only mentioned céline 3 times or something!

oh and about the ticket prices... I don't think it's that strange... cos they have to spent a lot of money in changin the colloseum, and elton's tickets are the same as bettes now...

Still... they only announced it will run for 2 years... not 3... or 5...

That's pretty neat news!  I like Bette, and will definitely make it down there to see the show!  I've seen Elton, and it was quite a spectacle, so I'll expect nothing less from Miss M!

her show will never last not even 2 years. they will have to cancel after a year

I think anyone who hopes Bette's show is a failure is completely spiteful. Why would you want her to fail? Just because Celine is leaving doesn't mean no one else deserves success in the Colosseum. People wrote off Celine's show as a joke before it even began and she worked hard and proved them wrong. She knocked down the barriers that stopped big artists from taking chances in Vegas and it's because of her that Elton, Cher and Bette (plus other artists like Toni Braxton) now see Vegas as a chance to stage a great show without the media branding them "washed up" or "hasbeens". Bette has loads of fans who would be willing to travel to see her, just like Celine, so there's no reason why she shouldn't be successful. We should be supporting her and wishing her luck since we know more than anyone how hard it's going to be for her!

i never once thought it would be "hard" for Celine and i completely ignored the haters. Celine is the only artiste who can have a successful loooong run in Vegas. Bette just doesn't have the staying power or the international fan-base like our Celine has .... sorry

Hold on a minute, on one hand you're saying you ignored the haters and on the other your hating on Bette. So I guess we can all ignore you then, right?   And Celine's fans believing in her isn't even the point. The point I was making is that everyone else said she would fail so we should know better when others try the same thing. Besides, Bette has been in show business for 40 years and you say she doesn't have staying power....are you being serious? She's won Grammy Awards, Tony Awards, Emmy Awards, been Oscar nominated and still appears in big Hollywood films and Caesars Palace would not offer her a contract if they didn't think for one minute she wouldn't be able to last. With Cher and Elton on rotation they've basically created a star-studded, crowd pulling trio and that alone is a big selling point. Bette will be fine, no question about it.

I was also there and so surprised to see a line opening right after the press conference for tickets for Bette's show. There were actually people in line! When she first sat down on the suitcases, she almost fell over and said "Almost pulled a Britney there". lol. She looked nice, and the dancers were great as always. Though like Davey said, it was only for about 10 minutes, which was dissapointing. There were quite a lot of people from the press, but only 3 or 4 asked a question. WEIRD!
