Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics

I just thought I'd start a topic for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics, since it's rolling around soon anyway.

I was actually in Vancouver during the month of August and it's already being Olympic-fied lol. :lol:

I'm not huge on the Olympics, but I highly support the women athletes who I think should get more recognition than they currently do. I'm not saying that they don't, but the male athletes get more of the attention. Male hockey tends to be more popular than women's hockey, but by what I've seen, women can be pretty vicious lol.

Anyway! Just putting a starting thought out there. Blurb away.

I can't wait for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics, two weeks of partys and sporting events. I say what recession, it will create jobs and careers. Also memories that will last a lifetime, also possible Celine watch. :yes:

Hahaha. All true, but it's been proven that all cities that sign on to hosting the Olympics end up with a HUGE amount of debt afterwards because they always go millions of dollars over budget. :rolleyes:

We'll see what happens...

I am quite excited about the Olympics. I won't be going as I live on the east coast and it's too far. I saw pictures of the medals today and i like the concept that they have that each medal will be unique and put together they create an art piece

Last night I set my Tivo to record the opening ceromonies :giggle:

I'm looking forward to speed skating and figure skating. I hope they dance to somethin by Celine! :wub:

Although of course tinged with sadness by the tragic death of the Georgian Luge athlete (RIP), the opening to the Winter Olympics were very good and did Canada proud.

Garou was fab, he sang Un Peu Plus Haut, Un Peu Plus Loin, though not as good as Celine's performance at La Plaines (obviously)

K.D. Lange's performance of Hallelujah was outstanding and very moving, and they had a fab Opera singer who also gave it her all.

The opening ceremony was beautiful and well done! :yes:

K.D. Lange's performance was great, but I did not like the opera singer at all :shoot:

Only three of the torch crystal looking things came up. Four were supposed to! So that the cauldron would sit in the middle.

It still looked beautiful!

One of the pillar things didn't go up. Each of the four were supposed to use their flames to shoot it up that thing to the torch. Only 3/4 were raised in the end.. Wayne looked nervous because of the delay. Our announcers speculated, otherwise I wouldn't have known either.

I pinned since this is the only Official Winter Olympics Topic and it will make it easy for those who follow it to write in it for the next few weeks

That was the best Opening Ceremonies ever, I F' ing love being a Canadian. Go Team Canada Go, also lets go team Nederland. But lets go Canada, let us show the other teams what we are made of and get some medals. :thumbsup2:
